Rampage 5 extreme bottom red PCI express slot not working

hey Peeps,

 

I have a rampage 5 Extreme with 2 980 tis in SLI with a 750 NVMe ssd running in setup. When I tried to add a sound card to the bottommost red PCI slot, the lights on the card light up but it is not recognised in the bios or windows. What should I do? The bottom slot is the only one I have left for the sound card. I tried moving one of the gpus and ssd to this slot and nothing seemed to work. Is there something wrong with my board?

not 100% sure, but you may be out of pcie lanes, what CPU do you have

Sounds to me like you're running out of CPU PCIe lanes.

Not sure, it should be already.

Check the motherboard manual for how to configure the PCIe lanes.

There are some DIP switches on the board, which I think may have something to do with lanes.

 

But if it is a CPU limitation, and you simply don't have enough, you would need to buy a 40-lane CPU.

I just checked, GPU 1 running at 16X, GPU 2 running at 8X, Intel SSD running at 4X. If the GPU 1 could run at 8X, I would Have another 8 lanes leftover.
