GPUs for hacking

I was recently introduced about 2 hours ago on this foroum to kali linux, I like hacking and code stuff I was wondering which you was good for hacking expessially bruteforcing

 

I am keeping an eye on a 1000 dollar canadian

 

tesla m40 would that be good or something else. 

 

Ps I'm paring it with a xeon and a gigabyte g1gaming ecc mobo and 32gb of ecc ram

For cracking get 290's and basically make a mining pc.

 

Cracking passwords is normally a waste and unless there stupid, will take decades or more on the fastest gpu's

Depends on country and if its someone elses pc.

 

If its used for leaning, its perfectly fine and can help you learn how to make you system more secure.

DON'T BUY GPU"S FOR THIS. ITS A COMPELE WASTE OF MONEY. 

 

It will takes centures to fine a password, and a gpu will only give you 9 chars instead of 8 on a cpu in a practical time period.

If your using hashcat, you want amd gpus as it uses open cl.

 

You don't need FP64, so maxwell won't be slow.

For pentesting you need a system(laptop isn normally best)

 

For cracking YOU DON"T DO IT. Its useless It won't help you learn much of use.

 

And spending 1000 on a gpu is a complete wast of money.

We see these types of threads more often than not and they all get met with the same response from me, as well as many others and the moderators. Its only a matter of time before this thread either gets locked or deleted.

Considering how many sites ask you to have atleast 7-9 letters brute forcing 7-9 letters would take millions if not billions of years

nobody brute forces passwords in an online attack

rainbow tables are a thing, as are a lot of other sophisticated ways to reduce the number of guesses

ASIC's are a thing as well, and a cluster of a couple of modern GPUs is good enough as well
