First Time Builder Need Help With Video Editing/Emulation Build

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fFs8M8

So I am a first time builder, but I have always been pretty good with technology. However, the more I research the more I see how different people's opinions are on various components and builds. So I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on my build so far and also recommend a GPU for video editing and emulation (Wii, Ps2,...). I am not a professional in film making, but I would like to edit my short films with ease and have a rig that can keep up for when I do eventually get better and use better equipment. Thanks for reading!

Different PSU. 480 or 1060 would be fine.

I really wouldn't pair an i7-6700K with an RX 480 or GTX 1060. I've seen this so many times, and no one realizes that it's not worth it. If you want a more balanced computer, i5-6600K and GTX 1070.

I will most likely not respond to you in a thread unless you quote me.

Damnit Carl (My portable POS):

CPU: Core i7-6700HQ

Motherboard: Toshiba L55-C5392 Mobo

RAM: 8GB DDR3 (even though I have Skylake)

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 530

Case: Toshiba L55-C5392 Case

Storage: 525 GB Crucial MX300 SSD

PSU: Whatever power jack comes with it

Display: Some 1366 x 768 garbage + an OK 1080p monitor

Cooling: Not enough + an external laptop tray

Keyboard: The included one

Mouse: $4 Lenovo 3D Optical Mouse (not as bad as you (rightly) assumed)

Sound: The Skullcandy branding right under the power button should clue you in

Operating System: Windows 10 Home

Honestly? Pretty much whatever the heck you want. It'll work. You probably won't be using complex pro features so just get whatever the best graphics card for your budget is, and it'll work. You should be more worried about the cpu you get when it comes to video editing, and the one you're getting will do great.

How is pairing it with either essentially a 390 or 980 not worth it? Besides, if he wants to video edit with ease, the 6700k trumps the 6600k easily.

Keep in mind he is making this for video editing, Your point is valid for most builds though.

A) The RX 480 is not essentially an R9 390, and the GTX 1060 is not essentially a GTX 980.

B) The 6700K is better for video editing than the 6600K, and if he can fit it into his budget along with a GTX 1070, then by all means. If he is mostly video editing, then I'd probably actually go with the 6700K.

If that is the case I'd recommend going the 6700K route because of the cores and hyperthreading.

8GBS, performs like one. Seems like one to me, that consumes less power. Same with the 1060. Performs like one, has more VRAM than one, uses less power. If anything, they're a better version of them.

Wow y'all are incredibly helpful! Now I was planning on doing this build and installing the gpu later when I get paid again. I'm seeing a lot of these recommended GPUs are really expensive. Would my rig be effective with a GPU in the $200-250 Price range?

I suppose that's slightly true, although if anything it's a compliment to both cards because they are being described as performing outside of their series (x80 for AMD and xx60 for Nvidia).

Should I go lower with the PSU? 500W?

Eh, node shrink, what'd you expect.

Eh, you could, but might as well just get a higher wattage one now in case you ever want to upgrade. I recommend the EVGA GQ 650watt.

I just added the EVGA GQ 650W Gold into the build. What is the biggest difference between full and semi modular?

Some cables you can't take out on a semi modular, but those are like the 24PIN connector for the motherboard, so doesn't matter too much.

So basically the common sense connectors aren't removable (for good reason) haha
