Different Color of HDD

Hey guys

 

I've been trying to learn how what's the difference of each HDD colors Like the SATA blue, black, red and such I try researching them but time is really against me! please help me or just give me a site that explains all of them easily.

The colours are mostly a Western Digital (WD) naming scheme. So WD Blue is their typical consumer drives that is a balance between speed and power efficiency. WD Green drives are power efficiency oriented, and WD Black drives are their performance drives, so focused on speed. WD Red is for NAS use while WD Purples are designed for 24 hour Surveillance systems.

 

Typically you'll go for the WB Green, Blue, and Blacks for desktop PCs.

Just to add in a bit more info, the WD Gold is the replacement for the WD Re lineup of drives. They are the new top of the line WD enterprise drives and are the most expensive.

 

WD Green is being phased out and was combined into the WD Blue Lineup.
