CPU upgrade path

I plan on getting a 6600k and a z170 motherboard. I head Kaby lake is coming soon and it will be on the lga 1151 chip socket, so i could get the 6600k and upgrade later to the kaby lake processors. Is this a good idea?

Unlikely that kaby lake will offer performance difference to be worth it, unless you wanted to upgrade to a kaby lake i7.

If you want an upgrade path it would probably be your best choice or if you wait you maybe can snatch a cheap amd Zen

If you don't mind spending 500-600 on cpus in the next year to year and a half then yeah it's a good idea.

In a strict performance value sense, it's a huge waste of money. You'd be better off getting a Broadwell-e

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

Haswell level performance if we go by the math by Science studio and that isn't much behind skylake, I would wait for ZEN+ personally but that's just me
