Hi guys, I dont regularly post here but I came here as a last resort for my problems. I am currently running an Intel Pentium G3220 @3GHZ, 8Gb ddr3 Ram 600w evga psu, 120 gb ssd and gtx 670.

I am going for an upgrade, money isnt the problem exactly, but im the kind of person that prefers bangforbuck, i only play csgo as a main game but want to try some new games.

I am for sure going to upgrade to an i5-4690k @ 3.5GHz, now the question is whether i should opt for a 6GB Palit Dual Geforce GTX 1060(300Euro) or 8GB Palit Gamerock GTX 1070 (522Euro) or 8GB Palit Gamerock GTX 1080(720Euro). Between those 3 gpu's, which is the valuable when price is related to performance ? I really dont want to spend an extra 200/500 euro just for some minor non significant upgrades.
Thanks in advance

Price to performance is best on the GTX 1060 out of the three choices. That being said, the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 are alot more powerful.

The more you would spend up to the 1080, the more you are putting in future proofing. Also 1070/1080 may be bottlenecked. For your scenario, Id go for the 1060/1070, no need to waste all that money on the 1080.

damn hard choice between the 1060 and 1070 here, the 1070 is IMO waaaaaay to expensive over all but i dont like the x60 line of cards because that seems like cheaping out on GPU even tho they are not bad, for the 960 for example you could(were i live) get a 970 for just another $65-$100 and the 970 was super worth that but seeing as you only play CS:GO at the moment it might not be a good idea to just blow cash at the 1070, im guessing that you are playing at 1080p at 60 or 120Hz right now so the 1060 would be way enough to push that in most games at high settings seeing as my 970 can with almost all games i have tried but ultimatly its up to you here, if its just 1080p gaming then go for the 1060 if you want something a bit better that will last longer and if you ever do VR stuff will be a beast then go with the 1070. the 1080 is just not a good deal what so ever here tho, not for your needs atleast

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Considering the price you listed, I really can't justify spending 74% more for the 1070 for a 20-30% increase in performance from a 1060.

Unless you're planning to keep upgrading in the future then 1070 is well worth it as you can just slap another 1070 in SLI.

1060 doesn't support SLI so if you want to upgrade from there means getting a new card altogether.

@Bananasplit_00 Yeah. However i did not mention my res , as i am currently only playing on a 1440x900 monitor :P so yeah. ATM i can run csgo maxxed out at 100 - 200 fps, which is pretty good. As a competitive player i would like to have that 300 constant fps. Having said that, i would like to be able to run newer games at a decent framerate, given the circumstances I am planning ahead to get a 144hz monitor or 120hz, but that is a whole other discussion :) Thanks for the help everyone.

If you will be playing on 1920x1080 or lower resolution, go for GTX 1060.

If you want to play 1440p, go for GTX 1070

for 4K, get 2x GTX 1080.

May I ask, why don't you want to upgrade to i5 6600k?

I was considering it tbh, to change over to skylake. Unfortunately I have friends that are technicians at the establishment that is kinda the monopoly of computer stores in my country, and they tell me that the skylakes they recieve arent upto standard, they have loads of problems with them. Hence, for the time being im upgrading alternative specs, the i5 4690K wont be worthless as i have a second pc planned for it. But yes in the future i will switch over to skylake and ddr4

At 1080p the GTX 1070 is 34% stronger than the GTX 1060 in the techpowerup testsuite of games, and the GTX 1080 is 57% stronger than the GTX 1060 (making it 17% stronger than the GTX 1080 at 1080p).

perfrel_1920_1080.png

However, those numbers don't quite tell the whole story, since the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 are strong enough that even with an overclocked i7 you're still looking at  CPU bottleneck with those cards at 1080p. At 4k where the cpu doesn't matter much the difference is more like

GTX 1070 = GTX 1060 + 40%

GTX 1080 = GTX 1060 + 70% = GTX 1070 + 21%.

I'd personally buy the 1070 in your shoes since it should give you the ability to just put everything at ultra and get 60 fps for a couple of years, other than really cpu heavy games like Arma III and Crysis 3. But the GTX 1060 is a really nice 1080p card too. You'll be turning a setting down here or there at 1080p in really gpu heavy games like Witcher 3 and AC Syndicate right now, but you'll still be getting a ton of performance.

That doesn't make any sense.

Yeah skylake doesn't OC that well, but still I would say that i5 6600k is better choise.

But if you decide to get i5 4690k, you won't be later upgrading to skylake, but Kaby lake or canonlake. Kaby Lake should be released by the end of the year, so why get previous version if you can get better one :)
