M.2 to interfere with GPU?

For the tentative build plan linked below, will my M.2 ssd interfere with the PCIe lanes available to my Quadro M2000? Will the GPU still get all 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes? What if I add a PCIe SSD in another x16 gen 3.0 slot?

No it won't. the cpu has 28 lanes

 

Also why are you using a quadro. Get a gtx 1070 Its about 4x the speed or more.. Unless you need quadro only features(10bit opengl or a quadro only app)

 

A 6800k is faster for about the same price.

Great. Quadro because I want to do CUDA programming and content creation more than gaming. I'll consider 6800k.

The i7 6800k is faster clock for clock vs the i7 5820 due to the i7 6800k having a higher ipc (by about 10-15%). So if you win the silicon lottery and get a golden i7 6800k that can hit 4.4 - 4.5ghz it will out perform the 5820k. But the cpus do have a 50 dollar difference if that matters at all. Also if you do decide to go with the 6800k you will have to update the bios (unless it's labeled on the box it will support the new broadwell-e). And one final note is that if you plan to overclock at all you should invest in a AIO as they tend to get hot as you pump voltage into it.

I checked, and the ASUS X99 A II supports Broadwell-E.

The question is does it support it out of the box as sometimes like my msi board, it supports it, but you need to get the newest bios so it would actually post. But with the Asus board its pretty easy with the bios flash back.

A quadro will be slower still. Content creation doesn't need a quadro. A 1070 would be much faster.

A 980ti would also be a good choose for the OP if he is just using it for the cuda, as the 980ti have more cuda cores then the 1070.

1070 would be better as the cores are faster. The core count doesn't matter, total speed does. Also a newer arch is better to program for.

HardwareCanucks did a video where he pitted the 1080 vs the 980ti and when it comes to video production, there is almost no difference between the 2. And since the 1070 is a cut down version of the 1080, I'm just going to assuming it's slower, even if it's ever so slightly. (Tho the 1080 does crush it in games)

I don't know, depends on if the op is on a budget or not. If not, the op might as well go for the 1080 as that would give the most performance possible. But on a budget the op can choose between the 1070 and the 980ti. Depending on how much is the price difference is between the 2 cards are where the op lives, it might matter to the op if the increase of performance is worth it or not.

Good point. This morning, I called up ASUS and talked to 2 different service reps, and both confirmed that the X99 A II would not need a bios update.

Now that I think about it more, GTX 1070 seems more appropriate. For what I'm willing to pay, it'd be a high-end GeForce vs. a mid-level Quadro, and going with the high-end option for the same price sounds like a better deal. Plus, I can install CUDA and OpenCL drivers.

Yup, pain in the butt. Had to tear my wife's custom water loop (with hard tubes to make it worst) just to use her cpu to upgrade a freaking bios. #rip This is why the bios flash back option is so good, you don't even need a cpu to change the bios version.

To clarify things the M.2 slot will be bound to a specific PCI-E slot, and when you use a PCI-E M.2 SSD it will either restrict the bandwidth or disable the PCI-E slot completely of which the information about what slot is affected is normally shown in the product specifications on the manufacturers website so you'll know which one to not use.

Golden? Mine hits 4.6ghz ez. Most hit 4.4ghz-4.6ghz and the extreme is 4.8ghz-5ghz

The M.2 will most likely be 4X and the chipset will handle it so you will still get all lanes

Ye, mine can also hit 4.6ghz, but I need to put about 1.6volts into it  #ripRNGgods Of course when I say golden what I mean is hitting those frequencies at a reasonable voltage. So far most broadwell-e chips that I've seen requires a pretty high voltage to get over 4.4ghz.

Mine is 4.4ghz 1.28v. I haven't tried farther because I am using it for video editing not gaming.

Ye most of the people I knew that upgraded to the new broadwell-e said they haven't had much luck in overclocks, well not to the clocks they had with haswell-e. And I've also read this article when trying to google the max voltage for the new chips (don't know how reliable they are) but according to this most people should be able to push to 4.3 with a decent voltage. http://edgeup.asus.com/2016/06/17/broadwell-e-overclocking-guide/

Well clock speeds aren't everything. We have been at the 3ghz-5ghz range for many years now.
