Which part can I change to get more frames?

Hi, i just built a pc, and playing GTA 5 and assassin's creed 4 i noticed 60 fps was no problem for my rig, but using the "optimize" feature in theGeForce expedience makes AC4 drop frames badly! I was told that playing on anything above 32" for your monitor can really decrease performance. I am currently (temporarily) using a 42" element TV via HDMI. Do you think this is the source of this lowering of frames? Or is my rig simply not powerful enough for AC4? But then why would it do that when the GeForce experience is supposed to analyze your hardware (mainly your graphics card), and tell you what will be the prettiest while still keeping 60fps? Do I need to replace/add to my graphics card? My power supply? My Ram?

Here are my specs:

  • Processor: i7 4790 (not sure if locked or unlocked)
  • MOBO: z97-e USB 3.1

The size of the T.V doesn't matter just the resolution, often times Geforce experience optimization doesn't work well use custom settings if you want to play on higher settings consider upgrading your gpu.

two things:

1: nvidia's optimized settings are hilareous, i want to meet the guy that creates those, because they're so far off that dude must be high xD

2: that guy who told you that anything above 32" decreases performance... he deserves a baseball bat to the back of the head.

it's not the size of the monitor that matters, it's the amount of pixels. (eg. 1080p, 1440p, 2160p)

beyond that.. if that "650w corsair" is a corsair RM or up (RMi RMx HX HXi AX AXi) your next upgrade should be a beefy GPU, thinking RX480 or GTX1070 depending on how much of an issue budget is.

Well if GeForce experience optimization dropped frames, set them back to what they were. The thing is it will adjust settings to give a balance between framerate and good visuals.

Only about 4 out of some 45 games have given me problems using optimized settings. In fact some are a bit conservative so I have to turn up the settings/DSR resolution.

First build every: Intel Core i7 4790K, Asus Z97-A/USB 3.1 motherboard, Kingston HyperX FURY 1866 2x8 16GB Kit, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 G1 Gaming, Corsair Obsidian 450D Black ATX Mid Tower, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & 3TB Toshiba HDD, EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2, Corsair H100i GTX 240mm, Gigabyte Bluetooth 4.0/Wifi Card, Logitech G700S. Running on Windows 10

Surface Pro 3: i5 4300U with 8GB of ram and 256GB SSD. Running Windows 10 Pro

So returning my 960 and getting a 1070 will fix this?

Well, budget isnt as much of an issue considering I can still return my 960 and get credit for a 1070. Would you recommend that?

No that's all Nvidia software which you will get on either card.

Yeah going from a 960 to a 1070 is a sizeable upgrade. You won't be disappointed. I was thinking of doing the same with my 970 but I can stick with it another year or two. The 1070s are way too expensive compared to 970 launch prices.
