So I recently got a new computer, no more than a few weeks old and for awhile I've noticed some clicking noise. Some would probably say to check the hard drive, but I don't think that the hard drive is the problem. The clicking noise happens once, every now and then, never repeating. Not only that, this happens when the pc is both off and on. So should i be concerned about this and what part is causing this?

I was going to suggest something in a fan until I saw that you said it does it when it's on and off.

maybe the fans were still spinning from the momentum right after turning off, thats what I am thinking rn

Clicking? While ON and OFF? Could be a cockroach! Those little buggers have massive jaws!

I would check all the connections first. PSU, GPU, etc. Even when your computer is off it still draws some power and you may be hearing arc'ing.

With a car, mower, ETC. it's understandable, but a PC, never heard of that.

My case doesn't do it, but my monitors totally do that 'cracking' sound when they first power up or power down as the plastic in the monitors warms or cools and slightly changes shape.  I mean, it's not SUPER apparent and the TV easily drowns it out if you aren't listening, but totally happens.  This is why I asked the OP to unplug it, if it happens while it's unplugged, it rules out everything electrical/mechanical in the computer and it's likely due to temperature change.

It would be nice if the author of the post actually let us know if they have tried anything that has been suggested.

OP probably forgot he has this thread, hasn't had the issue, or doesn't care.
