3)would it be compatible with z170?

4)should i upgrade from i7 6700k?(OCed to 4.5Ghz)

5)would it be useful for a gaming or editing rig? (currently only one multipurpose rig?)

6)should i build a second rig(youtube channel)?

current rig

a one gen upgrade is not worth it. especially since intel added an extra tick to their tick->tock release schedule. so we have to wait longer for the extra performance boost. it will be atleast 3-4 years before you  look at look at an upgrade

Current: R2600X@4.0GHz\\ Corsair Air 280x \\ RTX 2070 \\ 16GB DDR3 2666 \\ 1KW EVGA Supernova\\ Asus B450 TUF

Old Systems: A6 5200 APU -- A10 7800K + HD6670 -- FX 9370 + 2X R9 290 -- G3258 + R9 280 -- 4690K + RX480

1) no.

2) 2-7% CPU IPC

3) probably

4) No.

5) Yes.

6) no.. Not unless you're really popular and want a dedicated machine

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Hey I have a question in an area where I really don't know what I'm talking about.
I see Kabylake can decode 10bit HEVC, what does that mean?
I can currently play HEVC 265 8 bit media with out it, but will watching hevc 265 10bit media require Kabylake?

Lastly, what is the difference between 8 bit and 10 bit in encoding? and will HDR require Kabylake?

1) Sure, I always like new computer hardware.

2) Probably not alot. Tough to speculate how good it will be, but conventional CPU's have sort of hit a hard cap on how much faster they can get without just increasing core counts.

3)Yes. Kaby Lake will be socket 1151. They will likely be able to run on almost all current Z170 boards so long as they get a BIOS update.

4) No. Unless you just have that kind of money sitting around, then the marginal improvements between Skylake and Kaby Lake would not be worth the several hundred dollars needed to get the new generation. Kaby Lake could theoretically come with some cool unique feature that may make it relevant to you (like how pascal GPU's have SMP) But as far as raw performance goes, its not worth the upgrade.

5) an I7 is always the way to go for gaming/production when you cannot afford X99

6) Unlikely. Again, if you have that kind of money just laying around, then do whatever you want. But its very likely not going to be worth doing so.

a.) Not really, I'm interested in getting an i5 6600K when I manage to have the money for a build with one.

b.) The average generational increase with Intel is about 5%

c.) Yeah, though would likely need a bios update.

d.) No, your 6700K is already good.

e.) Depends on what you're doing.

f.) If you have the money for it and want a second rig to be like an HTPC or File Server/NAS go ahead. But as I said, your 6700K is already good.

1. Meh, the normal i7's are not really for me anymore, since I will need more lanes

2. 2-9% CPU IPC

3. Most likely

4. It would be a bit stupid to upgrade from 6th gen to 7th gen, even if you had a 4th gen i7 it would be a little stupid to upgrade to 7th gen.

5. Well yes, but a x99 would be better for editing

6. No, that is just stupid unless you have like 50k+ subs atleast

For me a normal i7, is something you get if you cannot afford a x99 CPU
