Hello people!

I'm going to be building a new PC in about a month and are trying to decide whether to have a windowed case so I can see my beautiful EVGA 1070 SC or to go with a non-windowed case and have no doubts about whether it will be quiet or not.  I currently have a Corsair Air 540 and it sounds like I'm sitting next to a jet engine so I am looking at Fractal Design's Define R5 or Define S.  Either one is good I just have to decide if I need a 5.25" bay but a HDD rack that blocks air flow or no bay but unlimited airflow.  But back to the main question,  does having a windowed side panel affect how much noise I will hear? This (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/NTFTCy) is my build, switch the country at the top right to "United Kingdom" which is where I will be building the PC and going to university, if you don't then a couple things won't have prices or pictures.

Thanks for any help or opinions!

They glass is probably just as good as the side panel metal + foam honestly. be Quiet!'s implementation in the Base 600 is interesting if you want to check it out.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Glass is pretty dense I dont think the difference is going to be enough to matter. But to offset noisy computers, just get a good headset thats noise cancelling.

Most cases I've seen have an acrylic window.

There shouldn't be much of a difference when it comes to noise. I personally would go for the windowed case becuase I would wanna see my PC's components with LED lights.

Yes there is a difference that effects the noise levels from the hdds fans etc as the noise  is no longer dampened by the sound dampening material. I have recently modded a glass side pannel onto my define r5 that had a acrylic window and did notice a difference(though my PC is less than 0.5m from my ears) I would say that having a full solid panel with sound damping material would make a difference.

The side windows on fractal cases are acrylic and are quite thin
