Can my PC run this 144 Hertz Monitor?

jewishdolphins

Here are my full specs:

GPU : EVGA GeForce GTX 960 (Superclocked, 4GB)
CPU : Intel Core i5 4690k Quad-Core Processor (3.5 Ghz)
Mobo : Asus Z97-A Motherboard
Ram : Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (4 x 4 GB)
HDD : 1TB Western Digital Blue 7200 RPM
SSD: 240 Gig Intel SSD
Case : NZXT S340 Black
OS : Windows 10

Here is the monitor I am buying: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014376

Can my PC run this monitor? Generally, I will be (mostly) playing CS:GO with low quality graphics and 4:3 stretched. I want to know if my graphics card is able to run this monitor at 144 hertz and if I can easily play csgo on it? How about other games? Inform me please. Thanks!

You should be able to hit at least 144Hz on CS:GO. For other games, Im not so sure you can hit 144Hz that easily...

Personally, I have a GTX 970 and the same CPU as you, and im getting around 250fps on a 16:9 resolution. Even though you have a weaker GPU, I feel that CSGO is CPU-bound, therefore a GTX 960 should still be able to handle CSGO at >200fps. Not to mention the 4:3 resolution.

I don't see why it shouldn't. Games aside from CSGO may be a problem though.

Yeah, I dont even care about 144 hertz for other games really. I only care about having it for CS. I might just have to switch to my other monitor (60 hertz asus monitor) when I want to play other games...which is very uncommon.

In cs it'll be perfect. If your a competitive player its a must. Other games will be much harder to drive at 144fps. Say like bf4.. But with lower settings youd be getting over 60fps anyway so you would benefit either way. Why would you switch monitors to play other games? It doesn't matter if your below 144fps.

won't i lag if i switch games though? or will it just display 60 hertz instead of 144?

Lots of misinformation going around. The question is if the hardware can run the monitor. The answer is a conditional yes, as the display supports d sub, dvi, and hdmi. Only the dvi dual link connector of the three can display 144hz. The 60fps floating around is merely software and gpu bottleneck related.

Blue screens eh? Did you try setting it to Wumbo?

No.. if you go below 144fps nothing happens.. Theres no magic. It displays the frames just like a normal monitor. 144fps is just optimal..

So, in conclusion, what should I do if I am playing a game OTHER than CS:GO?

Will it be fine? Or should I use my 60 hertz monitor?

I just got ur other post. I get it now. Makes perfect sense now. And nah. I'll probably keep the asus one cause I like having dual monitors. Hopefully it'll be fine in terms of fps.

theoretically, any pc can run 1080p/144hz

you should be able to hit 144+ fps on csgo.. right now im playing at 1920x1080 on a 380 (about the same preformance, maybe a bit more) and im hitting 300+ fps.

you need a display port cable.. maybe. it might not work with hdmi, but im pretty sure the 960 has hdmi 2.0

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I just like BenQ best because of the huge amount of customization, height adjuster, FPS mode, 1ms response time, and the fact that literally every cs:go pro I know uses BenQ (which makes it easier to find optimal settings for playing). I could care less about the size since I'm currently running a 21 inch monitor for cs...24 is plenty for me :)

Your 144hz monitor will display any framerate below 144.
