Posted July 21, 2016 Hi, I need help picking a new GPU setup for general gaming and VR. I have a Gtx 970 atm but I want to upgrade What should I do? Here are some of the options I'm considering. -Buying another 970 and putting it in SLI -Selling my 970 and getting 2 AMD RX 480 in crossfire -or also selling my 970 and getting a higher end single GPU like the 1070/1080 With VR in mind Which of these is a better option especially considering selling my 970 is a real hassle? Posted July 21, 2016 Well, if you can afford it.... I would say go for the 1080. Motherboard: MSI X99A Sli Plus, RAM: Corsair CMK32GX4M4A2400C14 Vengeance LPX (32GB),CPU: Intel i7-5820K, GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 960, PSU: Corsair Gaming Series™ GS600,HDDs: 2x Toshiba P300 1TB 64MB 7200RPM, SSD: Crucial BX200 240GBAll inside a Corsair Carbide 300R with a Corsair CW-9060007-WW Hydro Series H60. Have a good day everyone!
Posted July 21, 2016 if not go for crossfire 480s, one 480 is already vr ready.
Posted July 21, 2016 Get a single 1070 or 1080. I wouldn't bother with dual gpu setups.
Posted July 21, 2016 Single high end card is the best option by far. I edit my posts a lot.
Posted July 21, 2016 Depending on your budget i would go with the 1080 or 1070. single high gpu > multiple gpus
Posted July 21, 2016 I have no recommendation for you, but a few questions to the geeks in here. Considering VR we can expect a bunch of new games in development. As we know VR needs a lot of GPU power the developers will do everything to get their games running smoothly. They know, that the potential customers will have new Graphics Cards. Considering these 2 things i think they will programm their games (most likely) exclusivly for direct X12 where amd right now is ahead of nvidia. So concidering these facts, isn't a crossfire rx480 way more valuable than a single 1070 and propably even to a 1080? I haven't seen a benchmark, but i really would like to see the comparison 2x rx480 against 1070/1080 on dx12 titels.
