I am fixing a friends pc while he is on vaca his mobo is a asrock 970m pro 3 and it will not put out sound even with the sound card that came with the wireless card I got a sound card (old rig) and it still won't put out sound idk?

Search for Device Manager in the start menu and open it. Expand Sound, video and game controllers. Do you see your audio devices listed there? Is there anything listed in Other Devices as Unknown Devices? If so, go to Asrock's website to download and install the latest drivers for your board, I've posted the link below. Just select the correct operating system and architecture.

Right click on the sound icon and check the active speakers.

You have to select one of the sound devices, right-click, and set to active.

And you've downloaded the drivers from the manufacturer?

Click Realtek and check the driver version with the current version. If you're able, roll back.

 

If not: Delete the Realtek HD. Reinstall.
