Cheapest LGA2011 x2 Motherboard

Go to solution Solved by MikiPCMan,

OOOOOHHHH, I found this gem: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-Z9PE-D8-WS-SSI-EEB-Workstation-Motherboard-Intel-C602-Socket-R-/182165555217?hash=item2a69e9c811:g:iikAAOSwAKxWXSJ3 +Lots of IO +Has built-in audio +ASUS +PCIe x16 slots -Price

This looks to be the winner, I'd rather wait a bit (to get enough money as I'm a student), and have those features.

Hi guys,

So I am planning on upgrading my AMD FX-6300 system, but I have a low budget.

I'd like to use two of these CPUs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-XEON-E5-2670-2-6-GHz-20-MB-8-Core-CPU-Processor-SR0H8-115W-100-Tested-/131780913476?hash=item1eaec12944:g:cecAAOSwYmZXD03d

So, yeah. What is the cheapest LGA2011 dual-socket motherboard which supports these CPUs?

And of course, I'm open to suggestions. I am going to use this PC for video editing, VMs, and a little bit of gaming. :)

I am also considering these CPUs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-2-4GHz-10-core-Westmere-EX-E7-8870-CPU-Q5AV-ES-/121997051731?hash=item1c67974753:g:6UYAAOSwNsdXRbJK ,but Intel 7500 Chipset motherboards are really expensive.

Oh, and can you guys tell me if the mobos/chipsets support IOMMU/VT-d?

Sorry for the loads of questions and thanks in advance!

I don't think there really are any cheap 2011x2 boards since they're still deployed in servers. Check eBay for some used ones pulled out of servers, but again I don't think there are many. 2011 is still very relevant and 2011-3 doesnt offer enough of a performance bump to justify the hundreds of thousands of dollars in upgrade costs for the new platform in large server farms.

Edit: what about dual x5670's? Or x5690's? Yeah it's the older lga 1366 platform, but they're still fairly powerful chips. Also, the boards are a hell of a lot cheaper.

but.. why do you want so many cores, "on a budget"?

I thought the same when I was looking at Xeons on eBay a while back, lol xD

Thanks, Hackentosher.

Do you think I can get one for about $300?

Also, the cheaper, the better, right? :)

Kind of.

The motherboard is what RE-Increases the Total Cost depending where you get it from and for what price. That's what I found at least. And yes that was with the same/pretty-close CPU & price as you are referring to :P

To mention someone you have to put something like this @Hackentosher

And you can find dual socket motherboards for about $300-$350 just avoid ones from hp and dell as they have a lot of proprietary features.

@MikiPCMan

I would go for the second intel one or the supermicro one.

The first one you will need to design a custom case for, or find the original server chasis, and it looks like it may be somewhat proprietary with what looks like two seperate 24 pin connectors possibly for redundant power supplies.

And the Asus one is actually 2011-3 not 2011 (2011-0), so the e5 2670s will not work with it, and it also needs ddr4.
