I need some help with my first ever canadian pc build.

As you know I live in canada and I am willing to spend $500 - $650 on this build.

This build is for gaming and video editing/rendering. As far as games go, I mostly play all game genres (that includes indie titles). I prefer having better performance than graphics.

I dont think Im going to do any crossfire/sli since this is my first build

I am planning on running only one monitor. For peripherals, I need a cheap keyboard, a monitor, and an OS. I am not sure if I am willing to spend a $100 on windows 7/8 or just get Linux... so either one is fine.

Im planning on buying all the aprts at around christmas (since my birthday is on december the 23rd).

I need to upgrade because I have been gaming and editing videos on a hp pavilion g6. It is slow and I just cant play games with friends because I lag....

Thank you for your time!

All comments are appreciated :D

And I just reread that. If you need a monitor and peripherals, I wouldn't want to be editing videos on that. Makes your budget closer to $450.

at that budget i would highly recommend a AMD APU based System. this way you are getting the best CPU AND GPU performance possible and later down the road you can add a dedicated GPU as well.

I couldn't agree more with the A10 6800K (as long as your monitor's resolution is smaller than 1920x1080) , but for the case, the N200 by Cooler Master would be just fine and it costs half that much.

Also, if 2TB is way more then what you need, select the WD10EZRX by Western Digital. It's cooler and quieter than normal HDDs.

Then take the quoted build with my modifications. Faster memory only means better performance with an APU, wich is the case of the A10 6800K. And the listed 1866 MHz is faster that normal already ;)

Adding a dedicated GPU is very easy (even if you were not the one building the system). You simply stick it in indeed, an add one cable from the power supply.

you might not need 2tb but you will be paying more per GB if you go for a lower capacity drive.

Plan later. Parts and prices change frequently and things will be very different by December.

10 months ago I would have said that Linux is everything but a viable gaming platform, but things are changing very fast. The rate at which game are ported to Linux is nothing short of astonishing (thanks to Valve's efforts). So yes, you can get Linux (my favorite distribution is Lubuntu) and know that you'll have a decent game selection that will keep growing faster as months go by (through Steam). However, I have my doubts regarding triple A titles. It's too soon to tell how much attention this OS will receive from big publisher's most ambitious titles.

Basically, wait and see.

It doesn't look like you're in a rush.
