Can sata cable stop gpu fan ?

Hi. My friend was plugging graphic card to my pc. Then we ran unigine heaven and realize that 1 fan was not working. Card is Gigabyte 1080 gtx xtreme with 3 fans. Then he check fans and tell that sata cable was blocking fan. I dont see that. And question now.

 

if it was up against the card I don't see how it could possibly stop a fan...  Is this possible?

I don't think that a SATA cable can stop a GPU fan.

It must be something other.

A GPU fan is a very weak thing, anything can stop it if it gets in its way.

well, if the fan snags up the cable either the fan stops (which, a lot of modern fans actually have a built in safety to disable if they detect too much friction) or the fan cuts trough your cable, which is so unlikely it honestly shouldnt even be mentioned

Some fans (case, GPU, etc.) have safety features to prevent them from functioning in dangerous conditions like an obstruction or collision.

If they're in contact, yes. Cable management isn't just for looks.

 

If there's no obstruction in question, your GPU may have a fanless mode.
