I have a MSI gaming 5 z97 motherboard and I would like to overclock my 4690k, because why not. However the settings in the BIOS are a bit spooky.

Youtube videos on guides on how to overclock CPU's are a bit confusing to me, for example I don't know what voltage to start overclocking on my specific CPU, the 4690k. And I am scared it will be too much or too little. For example if I want to overclock my 4690k can I JUST change my core voltage and core frequency? Or is it vital I change other settings? Also what does CPU ring ratio mean? And If my CPU cant handle a specific overclock and my PC gets a blue screen or something can that damage my PC or is it just a friendly warning saying 'lower your voltage or something'? I would like to overclock my CPU to 4.4 but dont know on what settings to start at.

Sorry If I am unclear I am just worried about overclocking and I want to get the best out of my CPU since I have the K version. Also is Intel XTU a good stress test for  overclocking?

Thanks in advance

CPU Ring Ratio is your cache, when it crashes it will either blue screen of just shut off, XTU Is also one of the hardest stress tests, if you pass it, its fine.

My current build - Ever Changing.

Number 1 On LTT LGA 1150 CPU Cinebench R15
