Where to put GPU

Closest, further ones doesn't usually have same speed, generation or same power providing capacity. which doesn't always apply to every motherboard, mostly to older or cheaper ones

Probably a silly question but, I think i'm gonna buy a GTX 1060 when it comes out but I have seen stuff about using a certain PCI E slot for gpus I have a ASRock H97M PRO4 i was wondering if I should use the slot closest or farthest away from the CPU.

Well I used to have a board that had the same speed (16x electrically) for the third PCIe slot and thus I put my GPU there which actually led to lower temps.

Seeing how low the TDP and therefore overall temps of the 1060 will probably be, this is not an issue and no something you should worry about.

I had a 7950 and it was happy to be a bit further away from my hot CPU-heatsink.

wrong use of technical language bro. what your asking for is where to put the graphics card. and of course that goes into a pci slot. some motherboards might have the right card slot, some wont. a gpu is already soldered and manufactured onto the motherboard.>:(

Use the top slot.
PCIe slots:

PCIE1 (PCIe 3.0 x16 slot) is used for PCI Express x16 lane width graphics cards.

PCIE2 (PCIe 2.0 x16 slot) is used for PCI Express x4 lane width graphics cards.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.
