R9 285 vs GTX 950

Mextor

Hey guys im new and this is my first post :D

Should I get R9 285 or GTX 950?

They are both $220 (Computer Components are overpriced in Turkey)

R9 285 has better performance but older architecture should I be worried about that?

(R9 380 is $275)

I would love to get an RX480 with my 220$ budget but its $440 here so yeah..

Thanks! :D

Go for the R9 285 as it really doens't matter if the card is older and has better performance when gaming than the GTX 950.

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

The R9 285 is an R9 380. It 's faster than the 950 and 960. The R9 380 is a rebrand.

Bought R9 285 one day after this post and it literally died yesterday while playing The Witcher 2..

Temps were around 70c

Black squares appeared on the screen and it all went black. Got to desktop somehow, squares were still there. There was an error about AMD driver. Resetted PC and no signal..

Should I ask for refund or a replacement?

It probably is but if it isn't what could possibly kill it?

Could it be my PSU? (Cooler Master RP-600-PCAR)

Could plastic cover it came with cause it (Didn't remove it if thats the case i know who to blame..)

This card has huge bottleneck with my E8400 too should i ask for refund and get something like 750ti

(I feel like im violating some rules should i post another topic or is it fine?)

You should ask for a replacement.  One thing to cosnider it that while the 950 is the weaker card by a good margin,  nvidia has a multithreaded dx 11 driver,  and amd hasn't

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

I have to give thumps up for AMD because the 285 is faster than the GTX 950 but because it's an old architecture the RX480 or RX 470 maybe even RX 460 is a recommended choice.
