Lower 21:9 to 16:9

vikingen

Hello Linustechtips community

I am thinking about buying the acer x34 monitor, to pair with my gtx 1080.

For some games where fps isn't that importen where 60fps will be okay I could use the 21:9 resolution, and when I switch to games where I need more fps I could turn it down to 16:9.
Will I have any problem with this ideer?

The GTX 1080 is benchmarked to handle 4k on widescreen monitors at over 60 FPS.

So it shouldn't be an issue to run games at QHD on ultrawide as it only has to render a few more pixels compared to 4K Monitors.

Basically summing up the GTX !080 should be able to handle most games on your monitor at full size and resolutions. (no turning down needed)

I suck a typing, preparw for typos.

You mind linking me those so-called 4K benchmarks on widescreen monitors over 60 FPS?

The benchmarks I've seen.... are nowhere close to what you've said. And because of those results, 4K in my eyes is still not doable with 1 card to game with.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 48 average

GTA V: 33 average

Shadow of Mordor: 54 average

Hitman: 48 average

OP, just a thought but won't forcing the game in 16:9 on your ultrawide cause those terrible black bars in your games then?
