Help deciding 1080p or 1440p

Seduced Senpai

Hi guys, I want to buy a new monitor as the one i have now is not a "Gaming" one and its only 60Hz.

But i can't decide what would be best to get. I don't really have a budget,  but not a ridiculous amount of money pls!

I also wanna know if my computer would fully benefit from a 1440p 144Hz monitor.

I have...

i7 4790k 4.0GHz

16GB 1833MHz RAM DDR3

GTX 970 4GB

And if anyone could suggest me a few monitors that would be great. The 1080p one i am looking at is a

BenQ XL2430T LED 24 inch Gaming Monitor 144 Hz

Thanks in advance!

a 970 is not enough for AAA games in 1440p let alone 144hz

It can do 1080p high/ultra and  some at 1440p medium in most modern games

Well with your GTX 970, you won't get any better performance or frame rates.

GTX 970 is meant for 1080p 60fps gaming.

Gaming monitor? What's wrong with normal ones?

Your computer won't benefit anything from higher resolution. It will only slow in down in some cases (like playing games).

With GTX 970 on 1440p you won't get 60fps at 1440p when on ultra settings.

That's what i thought but was not sure.

I am not one that wants every game on Ultra but its ok. So do you reckon the BenQ is a good choice? 1080p 144Hz 1ms?

Oh and nothing is wrong with normal ones. I've used normal monitors for around 5 years now, just thought it would be nice to upgrade if i can?
