Looking for a new monitor for gaming.

I am currently in the market for a new monitor for my gaming pc. I don't have much of a budget so I know I won't find the best monitor out there. I am looking to spend around $300 CDN. 

 

Currently I am looking at this monitor and am unsure if it is any good. https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-GN246HL-24-Inch-Widescreen-3DLightboost/dp/B00KO4518I/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468181377&sr=1-4

 

I am also unsure whether I need 60Hz or 144Hz.

 

If anybody could help me that would be greatly appreciated.

Thats what I said. You can enjoy 144hz outside games as well as in game.

Honestly I am interested in all sorts of games. CS:GO and really anything. My set up is an i5 4690k with a GTX 970 and only 8GB of RAM.

Plus on this I am not sure what cable I need. Would it just be a DisplayPort one?

That AOC one looks pretty good 

either that or the 248qe whichever one you like the best

Is there any difference spec / performance wise for the Acer vs the Asus one?

Doesn't really look like the build quality is that great. You also can't change the height on the acer one

So you would recommend the Asus one over the Acer one? (Even with around a $50 difference)
