The site I've generally relied on for that is head-fi; that's where you'll find a no chunk of the audiophile community and in my experience what they tell you is generally right

FYI directing people to head-fi when they come here for help is not helpful and frowned upon. I'm not even going to get into how much of a clusterfuck head-fi can be, especially for n00bs.

To answer to OP, there is no best chain store for this. Your best bet is to look up hi-fi stores in your area and hopefully they'll have a selection of headphones to try.

The recommendation thread here has ideas of what to look for.

Woah mate, take it down a notch. He specifically asked for sites to look at, so I gave him one I knew of. It's fine if you don't personally like that site, but I'm just answering the post.

OP how can we recommend a place to look at headphones ans buy them when we have no idea where you are in the world, you would have to find a person that lives in the same area as you on this forum and that person would have to be into audio. Just do a google search and find the headphone stores around you. PS. @WubGuy Head-Fi is not very noob friendly, they have way too much snake oil on that forum for a noob, you need to be very experienced in the audio field, so you don't fall for the snake oil and it is not like they know that much when it comes to it, I sometimes use head-fi, but a lot of the time I end up correcting them instead of getting help, if I need help.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

Fair enough, and I also I should admit fault that I overlooked ops notes about gaming when recommending ath-m50x as they aren't that good for gaming

I know it's fine if I "personally" don't like head-fi. I'm not sure why that would warrant me taking anything down any number of notches.

That was the part I was referring to. The OP asked for website recommendations:

I live in a small town in wisconsin so I was wondering about websites to buy and look online.

P.S. I own and enjoy my sennheiser hd 202s but I was looking for something better.

The classifieds on head-fi can be a good place to find used gear.

Sonic electronix has a pretty good selection of high end headphones. I wouldn't buy from them though, unless you get one of the bundles, as their stand alone headphones tend to cost the same as their bundles which include the same headphones, and you can generally find a better price elsewhere.

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)
