Best Router Under $55?

Can anyone recommend me any good routers that can be used for an access point under $55?

Asus RT N16 is a good choice and is well supported by openwrt for better control if desired. You should be able to find it under $55 on sale. Or you might be able to find refurb RT N66u for a little more ~$65.

I recently got an asus rt n56u put it in ap mode and I lost the configuration ip address decided to reset it. It wouldn't work anymore after the reset even after reinstalling the firmware.

What are your network speeds like? I say WRT54g with DD WRT

if its just for an access point, why not get one thats specifically an ap, like something by unifi? its made to do a specifc job well, instead of having to bundle both a router and an ap into one.

For just an access point if your ok with used and hard to configure, but solid, fast and great range then you can ebay an Aironet 1140.

The cheap TP Link stuff tends to be hit or miss. ~20% of the time you get a unit that goes bad after a month or 2 and many of them need to be reset once a week to retain performance although that's in router mode, AP mode I'm not sure. It's supported by some older versions of DD-WRT and Open-WRT if the firmware is not up to snuff. The unit certainly has some decent cpu and ram behind it.

The D-Link is a nicer unit. Faster cpu, more ram and better wifi radio. D-link firmwares have a known security bug where upnp is exposed and doesn't turn off, but for running as an AP this is not an issue. It is supported by an openwrt build that's a few years old if that bug is a problem.

so to be sure of not bugs and glitches I should go with the  TP-LINK N450 Wireless Wi-Fi Router for an Access Point?

The D-Link should work better overall and work as an access point without issue, but I wouldn't run it as a router due to that security flaw. When it's behind another router you don't have to worry about that.

I decided to get a tp link archer c50 instead. I been using it for a day and it is pretty good as a access point.
