My GPU is underclocking itself and its really bugging me because I have to change the settings in all my games to something lower. I've had my Graphics card for five months now "the GTX 950 from EVGA" and I just decided to get Precision X 16 to try to overclock it, the overclock was successful for about three days, now I go onto it and I see it's only clocked and 405 Mhz. I've tried restarting my computer and setting it back to default but nothing seems to work. Please help thank you.

my gpu did this today, sometimes it get stuck in d2 mode. I reinstalled drivers and restarted and that sorted it.

I don't believe it is ubderclocked. It slows itself down to conserve power while it's not under load. The white and the red arrow show the clock and boost speeds.

When Maxwell drivers crash, they usually reset to 405MHz as the max clock speed. It's a known bug. A reboot should fix it. If it doesn't, a clean reinstall of the drivers will. Also, your OC is unstable. ;)

*Edit: It still kind of surprised me that so few people know about this. It's a really common bug for me to run into when I push the limits of my 960 or any of my 750 Ti's.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

sometimes your application doesnt require that much gpu horsepower, so the gpu stays in a lower power state to conserve energy

i suggest try running benchmark like unigine heaven or 3Dmark firestrike to test your gpu to see if it will run at the advertised (or overclocked) clock speed

also, sometimes your gpu will run at a much lower speed after a crash, it's a bug and a reboot normally fixes it, but sometimes it requires a fresh driver installation

there are other ways to force your gpu to run at a higher clock speed too, just tweak it in the nvidia control panel

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
