Hey all, I've been having a problem with my server recently. When I started the server, it gives a single beep as a normal POST would. But when I restart from Windows Server, it gives a continuous beep and the display is blank. Any idea what's going on? I suspect it's my ram having issues since it isn't ECC.

The server is an Acer X5900 which runs Windows Server 2012 R2 64 bit. Ram is 10GB. Any help is appreciated as the server runs my project's database. >.<

I would say it's probably a RAM issue, since you are at 10GB, which the Mobo might not like.

My native language is C++

I reverted back to the original 2 sticks which is 4GB but it still does the same thing

At least for other Acer models, a continous beep means your RAM is installed wrong or you are getting RAM errors. Try resenting all of the DIMMs. If that doesn't work, use one stick at a time and see if it beeps with certain ones.

I also use the server for folding and boinc and it's a SFF as well so the temps in the case are higher than usual. Could it be possible that the temps affected the ram? I also replaced my WD Blue hard drive with a WD Velociraptor a few days ago. Before the replacement, it was working just fine. I swapped back to my old WD Blue drive and it still throws the continuous beep when I reboot.

I'll try reseating the ram one by one when I get home later. The server is currently running so I'm doing some backups in case.

EDIT: Booted it with 2 sticks of identical 2GB ram and ran Memtest86. All passed.

you ran memtest for at least 6 passes  to make sure it had no errors . i had a error after 18 hours on the memory in my server. one pass is not always the best. i would let it run for a few days to see if its good the memory

ok thats one thing that causes the beep off the list

if it has a pci gpu pull it out and see if it boots if it doesnt have intergarted graphics then put it back in if you dont have a random spare card if you do put that in  and see if it doesn't beep .

Yep still beeps. Both with the gpu out and reinserted. I know the gpu works for sure because I used it to do some system diagnostics on my main rig. It was an Asus R7 240. But yeah, there's still a continuous beep on startup

It is kindda old. It's an Acer X5900 from 2010. I have taken a look at the CPU and there are no TIM on the pins at all and also if the PC beeps, the CPU is working so that is definitely not the case. I guess the mobo is finally dying. Either that or the PSU. I have been folding quite a lot on this PC so it might explain it

Yeah mobo is definitely dead. Tried running it off a CX600M and it still beeps. Gonna go out and get a cheap Dell Optiplex 745 for a server. Thanks guys
