new drive with windows on it question

so i bought a ssd for my parents and plan to install a 64 bit version of windows on it, however their computer already has windows and has a 32 bit version instead. would this work? also, how do i set it up so that the ssd is the boot drive instead of the hdd with windows on it?

If you feel like probably having to source a new windows key and probably not make their computer run any better by installing windows 64bit (As it probably has either 4GB of Ram or less), go for it

my parents computer has 16 gigs of ram, however im wondering if 32 bit software will even work with larger amount of ram

Ah, get 64 bit then, did you upgrade it as well?

no, my parents thought that more ram would yield better performance even in a 32 operating system lol

Nope, get 64bit as it's 16GB of Ram and 32bit can only handle upto 3.(something)GB of Ram
