Hey all,

So yesterday, I accidentally installed a virus. Long story short, it was a bad torrent (yeah, I know, I shouldn't be messing with torrents, but everyone makes mistakes).  Massive pop-ups clouded my screen, I couldn't install Malwarebytes (or any other anti-virus; the virus would close any program that tried to install or run a system scan), and I couldn't use the internet besides a few websites, such as google and youtube.  Within 5 minutes of the virus being installed and after my panic wore off, I rebooted in safe mode. Then I downloaded Malewarebytes, AdwCleaner, JRT, Rkill, and Ccleaner onto a flash drive from my old laptop. I used these to clear my PC from the virus, and I uninstalled everything that wasn't familiar or was installed on the date 7/4/2016.  After this, I rebooted and was able to access my computer normally. Everything is now working fine, all besides an odd side effect: I get no sound from a few of my games.  Running CS:GO was the first thing I did after everything got all sorted out, and no sound played at all.  Today the same occurs, all except for the sound from the Twitch stream of ESL One in-game. But no music, no gun fire, nothing. I then tried a few other games: Hotline Miami, Subnautica, Dead by Daylight, Metro 2033 Redux, and DOOM (new doom).  Hotline Miami suffered from lack of sound, but other than that, all games were completely fine.  Yes, I checked all audio settings, changed output to headphones, etc, but still nothing. And yes my sound IS turned up. I reinstalled both Hotline and CS, but still no luck.  After some searching, I found that both games use a 3D sound program called OpenAL, with which I may have uninstalled on my program-killing rampage. I reinstalled it using a path found in the Hotline game folder, and installed again from the interwebs, but still no sound. I feel as though I've tried absolutely everything. Please, if anyone knows what to do, help me.

Glad you were able to get rid of the virus! As @Cela1 said, reinstall the sound drivers for your mobo as a first step.

Reinstall motherboard/soundcard

audio drivers, the virus may have messed with them.

Okay, how do I go about doing that?

EDIT: Nevermind, figured that out, but that didn't work. Everything else creates sound without an issue, its just CS and Hotline, or other games using OpenAL
