Well it depends, there are a few that at 4K push even the best of systems. And I don't mean slamming AA to 8x or something.

The Witcher 3

Crysis 3

ARMA 3

Rise of the Tomb Raider is pretty intensive too, but not as much as the ones above.

Bull Shit xD

Witcher is only demanding because of Hairworks.

Crysis 3 is no where near as tough as ROTTR.

ARMA 3 is a CPU demanding title, nothing more.

Bump the resolution up in ROTTR and I have yet to find a tougher game.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

It's not most demanding, but I found STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl with the STALKER Complete mod very beautiful, atmospheric, very well done shadows both during day and night, night sky with moonlight and stuff and changing from day to day realistically, storms, lightning strikes , very nice visually.

I only checked it for a brief moment but I heard Vanishing of Ethan Carter also has great graphics (maybe not taxing the video card but pleasing to the eye)

Metro 2003 and Last Light have nice graphics (although being in tunnels, dark places, dark colors, not much variety)

Half-Life 2 also looks great with FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod (but DO NOT choose to change the character skins to custom ones, some of the custom ones are truly horrible) .. but I can't say that it's taxing on the video card.

I don't care if its demanding because of Hairworks, it's a feature of the game so I max it out.

Arma 3 is CPU intensive but it doesn't mean its not graphically demanding, have you even played it at 4K? Infact my 6700k at 4.85ghz and 980ti sli (before i sold them) could barely sustain 60fps on 1440p every setting to max, including max view distance.

ROTTR as I said I agree is demanding, just not as much from the reviews I have seen. I am yet to play it so my opinion might change, waiting for my 1080s first.

I'm confused why is Crysis so demanding?  It's not a recently released game so it's surprising why it would be.

Because it's unoptimized shit. People confuse unoptimized shit for demanding.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Just because it's not recent doesn't mean it's not demanding?

Crysis 1 was demanding for like 2-3 years straight after release, in fact when it first came out no PC could run it above 35-40fps on max settings 1080p. Most powerful gpu then was the GTX 8800 Ultra I believe.

For GPUs far more powerful than what was available when Crysis 1, 2, or even 3 were released no those games shouldn't be all that hard on them.

How demanding a game is on a GPU is relative to how powerful a GPU is.  Rise of the Tomb Raider is fairly damanding for recent GPUs but that is already starting to change.

What does it mean for a game to be optimized?

Optimization makes the most out of the hardware in your computer. A good analogy would be efficiency. If I have two V8 engines that make the same HP, one might do so through displacement (Crysis 3) and the other through "technology" such as duel cams and 4 valves per cylinder. Fallout 4 is a great example. At launch it was a very taxing game, now through improvements in optimization so that it's getting the most out of your hardware it's much less demanding. Which is why some think poor optimization is a metric for performance, only it's not. A well optimized game is a much better metric, as more of the hardware is being utilized. The better the optimization the better a tool it is to judge performance and vise versa. So you want a well optimized game, that kicks your graphics card straight in the balls.

I don't agree with that. Crysis 3 has some great physics effects.

Thank you for the explanation.  I've seen people mention optimization issues but I didn't really know what that meant.

Crysis 3 has been punishing hardware with a powerful kick to the balls for over 3 years. That game has really stood the test of time. Not just your GPU, but it'll crush your CPU as well. It's still a beautiful game.

RotTR was demanding. I thought the Witcher 3 with or without Hairworks was the most demanding I played last year. I'd rate it 2nd behind Crysis 3. Arkham Knight was demanding for all the wrong reasons. That game you HAD to have powerful hardware to get ANY shred of enjoyment from. I still finished it though. Ethan Carter will push your GPU if you max the settings. Game was gorgeous but I found it too boring for me. I can't speak for GTA V as I never played it (well on PC at least).
