Power line adapter into router

joel99sworld

Hi all,

The wifi in my attic room is awful so when I saw Linus talking about power line adapted I bought some.

I have one downstairs plugged straight into the wall mains connected to the main router and one in the attic plugged into a router. Both power line adapters are tp-link and the router is a d-link dir-615.

Mathis setup worked great for the first couple of days where I was getting 10 Mbps down and 3-4 up. After a couple of days I noticed YouTube buffering a lot so I did another speed test where I got 0.7 down and even less up.

The attic only has one mains socket. I've tried the same setup on the floor below the attic and I'm still only getting 0.7 down.

That's weird. Try restarting the router + power Lans.

I've restarted both power line adapters and both router and I am still getting > 1 meg.

if I take out the second router and just have the Ethernet cable going straight into my laptop I get the expected 7 meg down.

I apologise to the OP for using his topic but I just have a quick question regarding powerlines.

Can I have a powerline adapter plugged in to an extension like this one?

Or does the powerline need to be the first device connected to the electrical socket?

If I buy a powerline adaptor with a socket on it, can I then plug the extension to it? Or would that introduce too much noise into the electrical system and reduce the interenets performance?

I would be plugging in the extension the ONT/Router combo, the television and the ISP's TV box.
