I'm Building A PC For A Friend That Wants An 8 Core Machine But Can't Pay The Price For An Intel 8 Core, Looking At Benchmarks Videos ETC We Decided To Go For A 8370 Or A 9370 From AMD. Hes Mainly Gaming And In The Future May OC, Any Suggestions?

Mobo = 990FXA ,I Had It Spare From When I Switched From My 6300 To A 6600K And he Doesn't Want To Buy A New One

Don't go that way, please. Mores cores doesn't equal more performance, especially in the fight between intel and AMD. Your friend would be better off with something like an i5 6600K, it is more powerful, and you can squeeze even more juice by overclocking. The general rule AT THIS MOMENT (before Zen comes out) is that you choose AMD only when you're on a strict budget, when you want good performance, you go for intel. When someone tells you that AMD is better because it has more cores, punch him in the face really hard.

It might be better in games and things that need strong cores but in virtualization, rendering and even things like encryption the 8350 does better than the i5. still i am unsure how @TheGroovyMiner   looked at bench marks and conclude the 8350 was better than a i5 whent he term "mainly gaming" was used. Hell even the i3s of later wipe the floor 8350 in gaming.

Another thing of note - isn't the 9370 a 220 watt TDP chip?  Only some boards support the 220 watt chips.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

Yes, that is also true, investing in that kind of a CPU you're investing in an old architecture, that will become obsolete pretty quickly.

If you want to go the amd route, then go with the 8370.

the 9370 consumes a shit load of power and produces a lot more heat then the 8350 or 8370..

And if your motherboard isnt that decent either, it will be very hard to get a 9000 series chip to run stable.

And in terms of overall performance, they are pretty much the same thing.

But in all honnesty, if your main goal is gaming, then he might also look at the intel Skylake offerings, an i5-6600K or similar does perform better in manny games at lower resolutions like 1080p.

But it ofc depends a bit from game to game.

But still Z170 offers some nice new feutures that AM3+ doesnt.

On the otherhand if he can get a decent am3+ board for free, and his budget isnt that huge, then a FX8350 or similar wont be that bad of choice doe.

But like i said it will mainly depending on which games he playes and how he playes them,
