NZXT H440 Fan/Dust Filter Question

Rory1

So, I've got an NZXT H440 case and was researching fans to use with it as the ones that come with it are quite loud. I was wondering whether or not it would be better to use static pressure fans over airflow ones as there are dustfilters/front panels which can restrict airflow in the front. The fans right now don't move much air at all (I can't feel much at least) when the dustfilter + front panel are on.

Yeah get static pressure fans for tight spaces that you need air to flow through

The H440 is an awful case for airflow, so you want ideally the best static fans you can get for the top and front of the case imo. The rear fan can be airflow specialised though.

A static pressure fan with no resistance behind it(like a rad or obstruction) will act like an airflow fan.

I've had good luck with the be quiet silent wings fans to keep quiet.

So I should get 3 x 120mm SP fans for the front as intake and 2 x 140mm SP fans for the top as exhaust with another 140mm AF at the rear? Also, what fans would you recommend? Noise isn't too important but I don't want it sounding like it's about to take off.

In my case (a H440) I use Corsair SP120, they are very good but when on rads they get quite loud. I've heard Noctua NF-P12  are very good and know alot of people on this forum swear by them.

An awful one. I have a 12 AF fan at the rear and a 14cm SP at the front also pulling air in. Then I have 3 SP out on a radiator at the top of my case. I believe I have a mostly neutral air pressure inside my case.

@KE2012 did you buy the performance sp120s?

They are louder than the sp120 quiet.

I did the same thing. I bought the quiet ones and fixed it.

Probably, they weren't advertised as 'silent'. I can remember my room sounding like there was a tornado going on inside for a while till I got myself a fan controller.

I wanted complete silence. I still use a fan controller.

Now beside the case lighting, cant tell if my pc is on.

8 fans in my case and no noise even under a gaming load. I finally got a pc thats perfect.

Yeah, im not the type to go crazy for silence as I usually have some music thumping away in the background that covers up my pc noise anyway. But the fans without that fan controller were loud enough to hear over my music so it was really bad.

I do too, but theres alot of times where im doing work and talking with clients and music isnt great.

Plus up until now, ive had pc noise from something or other. I wanted quiet and finally got it.

Plus its nice on the times Im sick and drag it into the bedroom and hook it up to my tv.

Ive been debating on just making a new HTPC and putting it in my bedroom. Probably use my girlfriends current pc when I give her the new one for her bday. Its my old pc anyway.

What speed are you running your current fans at?

Your hand is not an accurate tool for measuring airflow. Look at your temps instead.
