So if I got a g900 and the battery died on me would I still be able too use it as a wired only mouse?

Impossible to know. If there is a defect it could be caused by any number of different things.

I've read that many people actually remove the battery to make it lighter and only use it wired.

You can use it without a battery at all, so no reason you can't use it with a dead battery.

Though I don't think you should keep a broken battery in it anyway...
