hey i was thinking to buy  2 rx 480 with a 144hz monitor but the hdmi 2.0 only supports up to 60hz and the card only has  displayport and hdmi 2,0 b something

so what should i do buy hdmi 2.0 cable buy an adapter and use dual link dvi? or should i just buy a displayport and DVI>displayport adapter WHAT SHOULD I DO?

and are there quality losses when i use the adapters

Unless I'm mistaken, HDMI 2.0 can do 1080p@144hz (support for 120hz was added with HDMI 1.4).

I would wait for aftermarket 480s to be released and reviewed before I decided to go buy them (plus I would probably go with a 1070 regardless).

Does your display support display port?

Horrible screen tearing, when I tried it.

Are you sure that was an issue caused by HDMI 2.0 and not something else? I can't imagine why the cable would cause tearing.

@Glenwing Any speculation as to why?

Ran fine with a display port cable, though it was a shit monitor. Gave it away for someone to use as a TV xD

What monitor was it? Are you sure the HDMI port on the monitor was capable of accepting a 120hz signal?

Why buy 2x RX 480?

GTX 1070 is like 10% cheaper, 50% less power usage, 50% less heat, 99 less problems with crossfire and bad scaling.

The only positive about RX 480 crossfire is that in some games and benchmarks it will be 10% ish better than GTX 1070.

HDMI and DisplayPort don't adapt to Dual-Link DVI, only Single-Link. What monitor are you talking about.

Buy a 1070 and save yourself enough money to buy a display port cable.

Edit, actually some monitors come with a display port cable, so use the money you'd save to eat out.

If OP would need more DP cables Amazon sells their Amazonbasics cables for a good price I think.  I use some of their HDMI cables and haven't had any problems so I assume their DP cables are good too.

Might have been the port, it was an ASUS 1080p but forget the model. Overclocked it went to shit after 60fps with a HDMI.

I don't think the HDMI cable was to blame. The HDMI port probably didn't support an input over 60hz (having a port doesn't mean it will be supported at the max framerate -- my tv for example is a true 120hz but only one of the five HDMI ports actually can receive a >60hz signal).

The 2412m doesn't support above 60hz.

Connect the U2412m through an HDMI to DVI adapter and the BenQ/Asus 144hz monitor through DP.
