2. Windows 7 Home premium

3. Windows Vista

4. Windows 95

My most hated OSs are (1=absolute worst, 3=least worst):

1. Windows XP

2. Macintosh (in general)

The ones I have used, from most fav to least fav

OSX

Win 7 Ultimate

Win XP

Win 95 (fond memories)

Win Vista

Win 98 2nd ed

Win 98

Win NT

Win 8

DOS

Win Me

I have very very briefly tried some Linux distros a long long time ago, but I can't really place them on my list. Same goes for Win 2000, Win 3.11 and win 3.10. I suspect SteamOS will change my relationship with Linux though...

From most to least favoured for all OSs (Mobile and Desktop):

Win 7

Android (Fav - Least ROM: Stock, CyanogenMod....~~~....Touchwiz)

Linux (Fav - Least Distro: Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Pidora)

Win XP

Win 98

Vista

iOS

Notes:

Win 7 is on top simply because of familiarity and Steam. It's not the smoothest and would easily switch to Ubuntu if I didn't love all my steam games so much xD. I don't like iOS, period.

In no particular order..

Windows 7

Windows 8 (with classic shell)

Linux Mint (shame Linux has annoying audio driver issues)

OS X

XP

Keep bloated Vista, Win 98, 95 and Win 2000 away from me..oh and I don't care for Ubuntu with Unity either. :P

1 - Linux Mint (If I could game on it I'd be all over this.)

2 - Windows 8 (What?  It's really snappy.)

3 - Ubuntu 10.10 (Pre-Unity)

4 - Windows 7

4.5 - Windows Vista (I honestly didn't hate it.  Wasn't much worse than 7.)

4.6 - Windows XP (Wonderful OS, but it's long been superseded.)

These are the only ones I've had extensive experience with.

1. Linux (Ubuntu 13.04, upgrading to 13.10 this month, using Gnome); I prefer the Debian flavors

2. Windowses (I use 8; I don't REALLY use it though, just for games during vacation)

@AdamIsaacLang , @Mooshi , and @MdX MaxX have you tried Gnome instead of unity?

Favs:

Linux (any fully fledged distro, ubuntu, Debian)

Win 7

Android

Dislike:

Vista

I hate to say it, but iOS 7 is getting to me as well.

In the middle is windows 8... I have it and it's usable, I just don't like how the new Ui is integrated throughout, like the Bluetooth and wifi menus etc.

As for osx, well it's just Linux but without the whole gnu thing. It's ok. But apple are too restrictive IMO when it comes to things like customisation, which is important to me...

4. OS X - Still good, but I want to like it more.

5. Android - great on phones/tablets.

Must admit, I am curious why the hate for WinXP?

Desktop:

Mac OS Lion

Windows 7

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Classic, not Unity)

Windows 8

Windows Vista

Windows XP

As far as mobile goes, iOS is nice and all but Android does a better job in my opinion.

I chose Mac OS as the best since frankly, it runs well, it looks nice, native Terminal and everything is easy. Since I get sent out by work to diagnose network issues, or just help set up networks, all of the utilities I need, I have. Never have I come across a simple to use, such powerful network management tool, until I jump over to a Linux distro of course ;)

Windows 7 comes second, because games. Hopefully all the hype around Steam OS turns into something productive, ie AAA titles being released on Linux. Until then, I cannot make Windows redundant. Vista beats XP because I never had any problems with Vista, and XP users make my job hell.

Windows XP for me was slow, buggy  and was constantly having system failures which resulted to completely formating and reinstall the OS serval times. I had the same problem with Windows 98, but as least it was not slow.

Yeah, my nephew had Windows XP on his laptop and god dam it was slow, along with there were system errors popping randomly. So, I replaced it with Lubuntu, installed flash and some other extras, made it easy to update, then I install minecraft for him (he loves minecraft). Since then there have been no problems with at all.

Any specific reason why you hated XP so much? I liked XP in general and saw no major flaws in it. I am not disagreeing with you as I am not saying you're wrong. I just want to know why you disliked it so much as to put it as the all time worst OS. Is that not being a little harsh?

From what I've heard, XP was pretty terrible initially, then Service Pack 2 came along and made it the best OS ever.  Maybe some of the OP's experience with it was pre-SP2?
