what cpu and gpu? and what games are you trying to record on?

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

i5-4460, R9 290,  8GB of RAM.

if op is trying to record a cpu intensive game with this spec, then his issue is lack of cpu horsepower if he is using cpu encoding

 

try tweaking around with OBS's settings and see what suits you best, i cant give any guidance as i've never used obs

At the very least you need to change the encoder to the hardware accelerated one so that it runs a bit better. The name escapes me for AMD but if you look it up you'll find it.
