a lil bit confused

Go to solution Solved by Shailesh Vats,

leave it got the answer, the price is diff is too high and a lot of perf penalty from cpu side, and only 2% of gain from gpu side overall a bad value combo

Budget (including currency): 1000$

Country: India

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming mainly

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 1080p monitor

i am almost done with confirming a build consists of a r5 7600 and a used 3080

and then.. i saw 7900 gre price which is 649$

will i get better fps if i pair this with r5 5600 to be under the budget

already decided for the other parts
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bLbqz6
here

and for 5600

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HYbqz6
i couldnt find a better mobo

Enlighten me

Did you look on userbenchmark? Because there is WAY more than 2% difference between those 2 cards. As for the cpu, going for AM5 is a better choice, because of better performance, and upgradability

just go am5 with the used 3080

7800xt = 6800xt = 3080 and the 7900gre is only a tiny bit faster but costs a ton more so pretty stupid to buy a 7900gre instead of a used 3080 when perf benifits are <10% for the price you pay

other parts look solid

gl on your new build

Except the 3080 has 10 or 12GB VRAM to 16GB on AMD cards, which is a real difference at 1440P or above

Plus you can't compare price of an used 3080 with a new 7900GRE, used always has a 25%+ price advantage but comes with well ...used parts, no full warranty etc

warranty matters most for mobos imo

those things can just start having strange issues errors and whatnot even straight up no posts and just have em happen spontaneously with no real reason

for gpus i dont think they just up and die on you like that till theyre actually old and theyre not as error prone as mobos

matters the least for things like the cpu and psu as those are among the least error prone parts hence why i bash any psus with <10 year warranties cause they wont cover premature psu death

i forgot about used 6800xt and yea those are better if you can find em for the same price as the 3080

we arent really talking about gpu failiures caused by retarded design from nvidia and i havent really heard of 3080/6800xt dying due to cracked pcb

think ill add a clause for a few particularly problematic gpus, otherwise this still applies to non problematic gpus that arent dying due to incompetent design or something along the lines of that

the prob is my budget only allow either go with used 3080 and am5 or am4 with 7900gre
i think i will take the 1st option

thanks a lot , yeh i can find 6800xt for 30 40 dollars more is it worth it as i will only be gaming on 1080p and not gonna upgrade anything for next 4 years.. so i thought 10gb vram would be enough ..
