Hey guys,

I am in need of a new Harddrive and decided to go with something like 3TB prefered.

But there problem is now which one. I want to use it primary as storge for my games (steam libary ). Maybe some other Media too.

What I found to be the best solution would be WD Black drives. As far as I know I should look for 7200rpm and reliability.

But to be honest. They are a bit too expensive with about 160€ where I see others for half the price. I know quality costs more but are there good alternatives for primary gaming?

I see Seagate or Toshiba drive around 90€ with 7200rpm and 64mb cache but I hear they are bad in the long run as they fail after maybe 2 years.

Would a 3TB WD Blue 5400rpm 64 mb cache lack for gaming?

I have a Asus z170 pro gaming as a motherboard.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Palmee!

WD Black will give you faster loading times since its firmware is optimized for performance. On the other hand, WD Blue drives are great for everyday usage and it should work just fine for gaming, so if you want you can go with this HDD instead. :)

Also, do have in mind that your FPS will stay completely unaffected and the only benefit from a faster drive would be your loading times. This will be beneficial for open-world games and MMOs for instance.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions you may have. :)

I'm pretty curious too, building my first rig and so far have a 240gb 850 by Samsung  but I know I'm gonna need a additional drive. I would like a 3tb 7200rpm. I noticed that the 3tb wd blue is only 5400rpm. Is there a noticeable difference the 5400rpm wd blue and a 7200rpm Seagate for example. I'd like to only spend around 80-90 bucks.

Custom Rig: FX-8350 4GHz, MSI GTX 1060 6g Gaming X, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, 16GB Hyperx Fury 2x8GB 1866MHz, Samsung 240GB 850 EVO SSD, 3TB WD Blue 5400RPM, Evga 850W G2 Psu, Gigabyte AM3+ Micro Atx Motherboard, Corsair Spec 01

Laptop: Asus ROG GL502VM, i7 6700HQ, GTX 1060, 16GB DDR4, 240 Toshiba M.2 SSD, 1TB HDD
