I'm not exactly expecting advice or anything, just wanting to let loose of the relentless frustration that is modern day software design.

I am all for a more connected world, where I can get the picture I took by the ocean pulled up on my phone in the middle of my office.  And I love the fact that I can monitor the temperature of my home from hundreds of miles away.  But its starting to get to be too much.  I just fixed a computer for someone, which required reinstalling Windows.  So I just did the whole Windows media on USB drive, download drivers from website and copy to USB drive, then plug it in, install windows install drivers and connect to internet to install updates.

And the VERY second that I connected that damn LAN cable, I had 3 fucking things pop up being like "oh there is a update for this application", would you like to register with ASUS today?, and "Set up cloud service with us"....  And all I did was install the drivers from the fucking website...  Like, I bet Windows hadn't even activated itself yet and everything is just like a fucking deer in headlights the second it even sniffs internet.

It is aggravating as hell.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Determination.

Thy hath sinneth, and in thy life thou hast fallen to an unholy, unspeakable level of humanity. Thou hast given into your basest needs. And suffered many years under thine Satan-box. However, if thine be willing, as thy hast show yourself to be, thy can ascendeth into thy glorious fold of the glorious church. Go well, my brother, may your temps be low and your frames high. ~ MrDynamicMan

It is a world where everything is connected and knows when things need to be updated, and they even do it themselves. Everything is always talking and communicating, and if not, its always trying and waiting to be able to. When you plug in that Ethernet cable, you unlock unlimited possibilities and knowledge.

Its a wonderful thing, appreciate it. I'd much prefer this than having to do it all myself (and having to know when to do it). Its a wonderful thing when you build a PC and when I plug in an Ethernet cable, everything that needs to be updated to work right automatically detects and does so on its own.

Like my thing about it is when you install the software, and it connect to the internet for the first time... it should be smart enough to KNOW that you're trying to do something else.  Hell, put it on a 7 day timer.  It will give me enough time to do Windows Updates, and everything like that, so I can just "chill".

Yea, I like the idea of being able to do the things that a "connected world" offers me, but there simply has to be a more intelligent way to set it up.

Awesome songs aside, I see what you mean. Unfortunately M$ and friends have all the interest in you having the latest software and in gathering as much data from you as possible.

Linux has none of these issues. It has different issues, but not in this field. A Linux distribution will never nag you to update, register or setup a service (at most, depending on the distro it may give you a notification saying there are updates available, but it will appear once and never bother you again as well as allowing you to disable it).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Welcome to the "Internet of (unsecure and obnoxious) things".

Tell me, how many of those applications, those updates, include things that spy on you? Beyond that, how many of them are even remotely secure?

Have fun puzzling that out. And before anyone says "nothing to hide, nothing to fear", that was the exact same motto that Hitler's SS used when investigating people.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.
