Samsung SSD Failures

Has anyone else has had any experience with strange intermittent problems with Samsung's Evo 850 series of SSD's. I've had two now, one 250 GB and one 500 GB that have been causing random blue screens and reboots. Not sure if the issue is just with the clone that I did with the samsung software or a problem with the drive itself. I did an RMA on the first one and with the replacement the issues have completely disappeared. I'm going to RMA the second one in a couple of days. 

 

I've see plenty of standard hard drives start to fail and those normally cause your OS to freeze up or run extremely slowly while the drive tries multiple times to read a bad sector. I'm wondering, since I haven't had a lot of experience with SSD failures, is it typical when an SSD starts to fail for it to just cause the computer to crash from time to time or is this something unique to these SSD's that I'm seeing.

Been using one in my laptop and desktop as boot drive for over a year. Works perfectly love them. Might be your PC

Just keeping this here as a It's actually been two different computers at this point too, so I don't really think it's the PC. I've installed others that have been fine; I've got one in my home desktop that's been running for a long time with no issues. But 2 out of about 10 seems to be a fairly high failure rate to me. Maybe I just have really bad luck.

I agree.  I have a ton of Samsung SSDs in my rig ranging from a 840 Evo to 950 Pros and not a single issue with one.  Considering that the OP has two and issues with both, one could assume the problem is from something else.

The other thing is, on one of the PC's the OS was loaded fresh and reloaded several times during the troubleshooting process. Board, Ram, and Power Supply were all replaced before we determined it was the SSD. The current problem child was cloned using the samsung clone software, the symptoms are exactly the same as the first PC though.

I just wanted to point out that bsod can be cause by many more things than just hdd/ssd failure. Did you try the drive in other sata ports? Did you try a hdd?

Have you ensured the Firmware is up to date? I had a similar issue with my Mushkin SSD at first until I flashed it to the newest firmware and have had no issues since, this was in 2011.

This can be cause by cloning a bad copy of the OS. Cloning a HDD on a SSD can cause such issues, regardless of which software you are using due to the difference in which drivers, controllers and the OS should treat SSDs and HDDs. I would recommend to simply do a complete fresh install and see if the problems occur again. A screenshot of the BSOD with the error code would be helpful. Trying the drive on different ports and computer with different cables could help you narrow things down.
