I'm looking to buy/build my own PC and I'm confused on what I should do I'd like to get the best value for money and I am not keen on overclocking, I'd also like the PC to have a 3-4 year life span as I'm a student and I don't have high income so I want reasonable price and life span.

- I am looking for a Skylake CPU (Thinking of an i5 6600k or i7 6700k)

- GPU should be sufficient to run games at 60 fps 1080p high to max settings for 3 years maybe dipping to medium/high (Thinking of GTX 970/1070 and debating on whether I should wait for the RX 480 8GB as it's better value)

- 8GB DDR4 ram seems to be fine but I've been told that I should get the 16 GB DDR4 ram as games will become more demanding in the coming years.

I'm open to any suggestions these are just things I've been contemplating an alternative is something I'm completely open too.

All help received is much appreciated, thanks for the help in advance!

Budget - £900 (Approx. $1300) but I'd prefer spending £800 (Approx $1200). Sole purpose of the console is to game at 1080/1440p. I play BF4, Overwatch, LoL & will play BF1 when it comes out.

Dude I built my machine back in 2013. I dont plan on upgrading for some time. Maybe a graphics card in the future, but not an entire setup for a while. Those CPU's will be fine. Intel doesnt really offer huge performance gains per generation. So that CPU will probably be good for a long while. GPU wise, thats kinda up in the air. Nvida pricing seems to be inflated because of short falls in supply. We have not a clue where AMD's card falls in to the mix as I haven't seen any benchmark. Until LMG and Jayztwocents bench mark the card you cant really know what to expect. Ram wise you will play by ear. You can buy 8 Gbs and see where it takes you. I like having 200,000 tabs open in chrome across 2 web browsers as I have 2 screens. If you feel you need more ram then buy more ram at a later date. Ram is generally not that expensive.

Advise:

Use PC Parts Picker. Its a great way to check out pricing and comparability between parts.

Buy a quality Power Supply (Not a cheap POS one) and buy a quality motherboard (ASUS, MSI, ECT.)

Try to fit an SSD in to the budget. Its worth every penny.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I don't want to overclock and I want something that looks good but if it eats a lot of the budget I don't mind getting something less aesthetically pleasing.

Even tho you dont wanna overclock, I throw in a k series CPU which is overclockable. Since you only do 1080/1440p gaming, 1070 should be enough.

These builds seem dope but I've got another question can the GTX 970 last 3 years from now on 1080p gaming? As it will be a huge saving for me. I could wait for 29th July and pick up a RX 480 which is as good as a 980 apparently and cheaper than a GTX 970.

970 may last you another 3 year if you accept medium settings instead of very high/ultra. But if you feel like 1070 is too expensive, I would suggest to wait for rx480's review out. It should be better than 970 with lower price. But still, rx480 may not ran ultra settings 60fps of all games 3 year from now.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/hLC3Cy $900. you don't need overclocking dude. Its a waste. Trust me I have overclocked system (i5 4690k @ 4.4 GHz) and it increased my fps with 7. Yes 7. More than that I am pretty sure that 1070 is going to be better than RX 480. The 6700 will only increase your FPS with 10 in the new games at most and 20-30 or in less demanding games like Overwatch for example, but I will leave this for you to decide if the extra money is worth it. If you want more FPS you can go with better motherboard and 3200HRz ram because Skylake performs better with faster ram. With the rest of the money you can get SSD or something else that you want.

So I have found this PC on UK Amazon and it's £870. Tell me what you think of it and shall I get it. Does the person selling seem reputable? Thanks

BTW: I've tried all the builds and those of you that made the builds using pcpartpiker US were good but then I tried the exact same specs on pcpartpiker UK and it turns out it ends up exceeding my budget. I don't know why this is but I am thankful for everyone's input. I have gained a lot of knowledge and insight on what I should do when buying my future PC. Mentioning it again but I am grateful, thanks!

Well in this build in the name it says i5 6500 and in the description it says 6400 so be wary of that. Also the one I showed you is £819 and with a better CPU.

Turns out building a PC is more expensive as I will have to install windows 10 too which is £80 so I've found these PCs which are branded and come with windows 10 pre-installed.

These are the best value PCs I've found and I've checked numerous sites so which one is the better one out of the 3?

I've never built a PC before so I am wondering if the paste and screws are supplied with the motherboard or whatever else it's put with so I can put the PC together or will I have to buy screws and paste seperate?

thermal paste is on the stock heatsink itself, just install the heatsink and you're good. screws will come with your case and psu.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/YVsccc This is the same build I posted a few posts back. It never went more than £ 900 in the first place. I took your situation being a student, so if you have to moove, the mATX case wouldn't give you any trouble since its quite small.
