Hello,

I am looking for a flight luggage proof gaming setup with a form factor like:
https://gaemspge.com/sentry.html
if i have to i cut a custom foam fo a metal case its also fine.

It is not important that everything is included or built into a case. Its enough if it is save or just rugatized enough to withstand airport treatment. If this means it takes an hour or to to setup at a desired location i am fine with that.

I worry about every setup with a card because at the airport it will get harsh treatment. And if this happens the cards will flex and it  will break.

A gaming Laptop would be the standard "boring" solution but i wold have to carry it im my hand luggage which i dont like if its a 17"+ screen. Also i like the idea of a desktop grafic/CPU a lot more.

Budget: ~3000€ max 4000€

Best way I want think of doing this is a raven RVZ series case, have a nice mITX build in it and a screen that hinges on top. all of it in a luggage compartment of course. Not that hard to build. Get back to you latter

System Spec: H87 mobo from Zotac, I3 4130, 4GB ddr3 1600mhz Cas 11, WD green 2TB all in side of a Cooler Mater Elite 120

Gaming laptop is what I would do personally - there will be models coming with a 1080 desktop card inside etc or a GT80 Titan with dual cards, or something light like a GS60 Ghost Pro

I must be boring

Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb,  4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii

thats just a slim case if i put a real GPU-card in there it will be okay even if the case is being dropped like 1 m down (being i a foam transport case)? I am worried that all slotable cards like the GPU will break either the mainbord, the connector, or the card itself. i am searching a case with good support for those cards. Or a solution to stabilized for example the GPU.

get a support 3d printed that holds the card in place should the machine be dropped or banged around - like a support frame

Or perhaps you can add a cut out of foam into the case to store the GPU during transit?

(true but I love gaming laptops so id still do that haha, even if lame)

just a thought...

Lets say you got a mobile desktop you can put on the luggage in a plane.  There are some known cases where airport people drop luggage from like 15ft, and also, a lot of things, shit gets lost.  Especially when you pack a pc, on the outside of a scan, it'll look like a suspicious black box, which they will need to crack open.

Now, regarding the mobile desktop.... there may be other ways....

1.  Get the razer gaming laptop, that is compatible with the razer core.  Ya, its not gona run the GPU at max settings, but its the 'easier way' of doing things.  You get a nice laptop, and 90% desktop graphic power for gaming, and other stuff.  To pack it, take out the gpu, put it in a nice container full of foamy stuff.  and your razer core should be find with clothing around it.  Put a nice plastic bag around the core will be good.  Then the laptop can go with you.  Good for security reasons too.  I know people who lost shit on planes, and never get them back.  Either stolen, or just, lost.  So... at least your pc files and such are safe with you.  You can even get the razer ultrabook for smaller size, and weight. (you can also pack a bigger portable monitor in luggage, see link below) now you have dual screen!

2.  You could get a slim tiny pc.  same thing, take out the gpu.  Bring a portable monitor, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H4MWMWQ?psc=1, then get a small wireless keyboard and mouse, (i suggest some amazon stuff too, fine one with good reviews) and your set.  I've used wireless mouse for a long time for gaming, and its fine.  U can get wired too if you want, but ya.  You can leave the usb in the back of the pc for convience, or in a usb hub, and plug the hub in when you need it.  In the end, you'll never really get the exact same form factor as the xbox thing, but it'll be close.  At least you can have desktop pc power on the go.

The only good thing about the razer core, is that the GPU is easy to take out.  On the slim pc stuff, it'll get more complicated in most cases.  As i'm sure you dont mind modding it to make it more secure, but i dont think it'll matter.  Either the the drop will break the gpu, or your gpu is so damn secure, that heat might be an issue, or switching GPU's in the future will be an issue.  And considering your budget, i assume you might switch every once in a while... rather than wait like 5+ years.

you speak out of my heart:

1) razer core... is it worth it, had you tried it? I dont you how well it will work.

You mean for example a foamy stuff bag with the Graphic card and the core. and the compatible laptop in the hand luggage

2) portable PC thats the thingy i would like to build/have. But I dont know if I am able to build a sturdy, rubost "travel" configuartion. If I build something like this i think i have to seperate all parts an rebuild it afterwards. I was just searching for a build guide or somebuddy how already build something like this.

I dont think it is possible with 3D-priniting to build support structure wich can handle the drops...

In the end I think I will buy either a boring gaming laptop or a razer core thingy...

1) in most cases, yes.  i heard it does get hot if you game on it alone, but it says a lot cooler if you run it with the razer core, beucase it stops using the internal GPU.  instead, you'll use the external GPU.

2)  the problem is, i have a feeling it may work, at the same time, i dont want to be partially responsible in you loosing a 3-4k build.  HP and stuff ship desktops world wide, but those people dont throw their desktops like they do with our luggage.  besides, i still dont see how this'll get through security well.  i think when i put my laptop in my luggage last time, (my msi gaming laptop was too big, and i had a smaller netbook with me too... which was in my backpack), TSA broke my lock on my luggage, i assume its to check my laptop... at least nothing was stolen.  My friends lost their swiss army knives, and a few other small stuff, with broken locks as well... =_=... but i think it was because they didn't allow knives at all.. i think...

in the end, i feel its doable, just un-preferred.  btw, do you travel a lot? or just, like, once a year or something...  cause its kinda interesting to see u even want a portable pc.

lastly, unless you REALLY need this now, its not a bad idea to wait.  things like the razer core will be more common, as other companies will do something similar.  Since USB type C with thunderbolt, is pretty damn powerful, and i'm sure there will be cheaper versions of the 'razer core' coming out soon enough.  Including the fact that there will be quad core ultrabooks that'll keep you capable of gaming anything, with a light thin laptop on your back.

I am working for a company, we are selling logistic systems (like conveyor and stuff ;)). For that reason  I am like 1 month+ at a location. I am like 70% of the year not at home.

hmmm....

i will try to decide for one of those solutions:

1) big bulky gaming laptop

+everything included

+"save" transport

+nothing complicated

+-everything in my hand luggage

-heavy

-hard to upgrade

https://www.amazon.de/MSI-001782-SKU2-Notebook-Geforce-schwarz/dp/B01C3O06W2?ie=UTF8&childASIN=B01C3O06W2&creative=22498&creativeASIN=B01C3O06W2&linkCode=df0&smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&tag=geizhals1-21

2) Laptop with good CPU + Razer Core

+lighter(GPU not as heavy)

+everything included (except of the GPU)

+nothing complicated

+"save" transport (except of the GPU)

+-most of it in my hand luggage

-extra parts in the luggage

I am not able to find a razer 17" laptop on there site (other than the one with the display in the keyboard)... The site is so polluted with its so shiny and thin and.... Can somebody ponit me to a viable choice(compatible to a Razer Core and 17"+)?

3) slim tower

+Best Performance

+easy upgrade

+-everything stored in luggage

-transport (disassamble every time)

-Display not included

NUC would be the budget version i dont know if i like it or not. could work thogether with a razer core + Display. I dont think this CPU is potent enough (i could be wrong)...

some case like:
http://www.silverstonetek.com/raven/products/index.php?model=RVZ01
and for traveling: pack each part separate + Display

ya, now i understand your situation a bit better.  I feel like a laptop solution is kinda your best bet, but i see your pain better now.  The 17" laptop is definetly a burden after some time.  Packing that in your backpack, god... its not fun.  The problem is, the razer laptop that is 17" isn't their newest one, and is not compatible with the razer core.  The small laptops are.

1)  ya, last resort this.  Your back hurts after a while with this too

2)  the smaller ones are compatible with the razer core unfortunately.  Plus side is, system is lighter/smaller.  easier on your back, so is the charger too.  but i think you should pack a montior too (you planned too anyway, xD)

3)  unfortunately, its do-able, but you need to figure out how to pack that sucker in, and hope for the best.  The issue is actually the monitor.  Properly packed PC will survive, (with gpu out) but, the monitor is much more fragile.  You probably need to make something to protect the screen when you pack it, disassemble the legs too.  keyboard and mouse, not too worried about... but if you can figure out how to pack that all in a single luggage, with your clothes, and other stuff, (and you ogota make sure you get good leak proof bags for your washroom stuff).  you are good to go.

NUC's are laptops... in terms of power, and specs.  they'll save yoou a lot of space, and you can put it in your luggage, and youre good to go.  I think its a viable option, and soon it will be compatible with things like the razer core.  But atm, nothing is set in stone yet.  Besides, i'm surprised your comfortable in putting your desktop pc in your luggage.  god, i dont trust airport staff enough to handle my expensive gear, xD

really wish i could help more, but unfortunately, i do lack experience in the custom pc build stuff.  i just build pc's, and know lots of products in the market, but ya...
