UPGRADING MY CPU'S

Hi guys , im new here ... i would like to ask.. is it okay for me to upgrade only my cpu to Intel core i5 ? since im really on a low budget for this pc .. im thinking of upgrading it .. is it okay for me to go for intel i5 ?

yes and there is really no point to go i7 unless you are doing work that needs cpu

Well since you are on a budget, I would definitely NOT recommend Skylake. 

An i5 4460 is a decent CPU and you can usually find it for $170 approximately. 

 

But going from an i3 to an i5 you will notice a difference  (As I noticed from my AMD FX to an i7)

I'd honestly advice you to upgrade the gpu and the monitor first! 

I currently have some benchmarks running with i3 2120 vs I5 2500k and it's not even a 5% difference in fps. 

You can find something like a gtx770 for cheap nowadays though! And then get a decent 1080p display.

A GTX 770 is really good but you need to be REALLY lucky to find it (I was desperately trying to find one but I couldn't)

It would be nice to know:

1. What do you want for that PC. As others have said, you might want to upgrade your GPU rather than CPU.
2. Your mobo.
3. How much are you willing to spend.

no 1.  this my only gaming rig right now .. upgrading GPU is better than CPU ? ..
no 2. what is a mobo ? sry im quite new into computer stuffs 
no 3. im willing to spend around 200 usd or maybe 250 is the max i can go with ..

really ? i saw a lot of games recommendation requires i5 thats why im thinking of upgrading it ..

so your recommendations is to upgrade my monitor and get a better graphic cards ?

If it's a gaming PC, yes. Your GPU is way to weak. Even your CPU not being the best out there, it's still much better than your graphics card, so focus on that.

my motherboard is asus p8z77-v lx
my psu model is cooler master extreme power plus 500w
oh so focus on my GPU rather than CPU ?

Okay, you are good. Focus on the GPU and a monitor. Aim for a 1080p display + a nice card; you might be able to snag a used Gtx 960 or R9 380 with that budget of yours.

okay .so if im going for a better monitor and gpu . do i have to upgrade my PSU ? .. im not sure how much the watts needed
