Silverstone Strider Gold 850W. Thought as much. I guess I'll just have to figure out a way to hide the cables between the PSU and hole in the motherboard tray.

our SilverStone cable kits will be available at PC CASE GEAR by end of this week of early next week.

Hi all,

So I'm working on my new Skylake build and I have a question regarding cable management. My current PSU is fully modular, and whilst I can make the cables nice and tidy where they come back in to the front of the case and plug in, they're all bundled together and looking ugly at the bottom of the case where the PSU is situated. Despite running immediately from the PSU to back of the case ("back" being behind the motherboard tray in this example) where they're hidden, the actual connectors aren't well sleeved and look not so nice coming out of the PSU (I can't post pictures right now as I'm at work, so hopefully this makes sense). The sleeving stops about an inch short so you see all the individual cables in all their different colours.

My biggest question is, can I use the white extension cables I've just bought straight from the PSU? My understanding was, given they're named extension cables, was that I had to plug them into the ends of the original PSU cables. It would just look so much nicer though if they acted as a complete replacement. This PSU is out of warranty now, but still a very good unit, so I would like to make this work if I can, without blowing myself or my PC up.

If this doesn't make sense, I'll get my Paint skills on :)

Thanks.

You can plug the extensions into your PSU's cables. They're universal.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Sorry, by that do you mean I can plug the extensions straight into the PSU, completely replacing the stock cables?

No those would be full replacement cables extensions use the original cables from the PSU. What PSU do you have?

No. Extensions go on the end of the existing PSU cables. Plugging them into the PSU directly won't work electrically and in most cases, won't work physically either.

Silverstone Strider Gold 850W. Thought as much. I guess I'll just have to figure out a way to hide the cables between the PSU and hole in the motherboard tray.
