Hi people from the internet,

I'm new on this forum (but I follow LTT for years now). So I hope you will be able to help me :) .

I got a new mobo, a second hand Asus P6T Se, yes it's an old one, but i bougth it for 15€ with an i7 920. It's really cheap but for a reason, the seller told me that when he put thermal paste on it, a part leaked on the socket, he tried to remove it but damaged the pins (and he didn't know because I doesn't realize the importance of the pins, whatever). I really want this one to work, I decided to repair the damage pins but, when I carefully checked the mobo, some pins were  flattened (is it correct?), others were bent. I spent almost a day to care of it, but I discovered some broken pins, 3 actually.

Right now the mobo starts, when it wasn't according to the last owner, cpu cooler is running fine, the graphic cards work (I use an old Radeon X300se to see if I had a signal), but nothing happen. I found the intel 9xx series pins layout on a pdf file (attached) core-i7-900-ee-and-desktop-processor-series-datasheet-vol-1.pdf and also all the code for each pin. I marked on red all broken pins, and with yellow all bent pins on the image bellow !

Can you guys tell me if some are really important and if I can repair it ?

EDIT: I dit not mention that , some "yellow" pins aren't sligthly with the others, but it seems that they can have a contact with the cpu, a little bit (I mean a tiny bit) shift (is that the correct word again?)

Oh, by the way, I have an LGA 771 server mobo with two xeon but one is missing a cpu cooler, do you have any idea to install one (from another non-compatible mobo/socket with a little of mod or something else ? In France 771 cooler are really expensive, the Noctua NH series costs something like a hundred, even passive cooler are expensive, and I checked on ebay...

Thanks a loooooot ! :D

Welp, it's toasted. You have a lot of broken/bent pins, and the broken ones cannot be put back easily (unlike the PGA in which you can just pop the pin into the socket).

Oh and also, if my poor knowledge of French doesn't fool me, I found a generic LGA 775 cooler, and it costs 15€ with free shipping.

And if my PC knowledge doesn't fool me aswell, LGA 775 and LGA 771 coolers are intercompatible.

The 775 and 771 are inter compatible. The only difference is the placement of two pins on the CPU.

The 775 coolers won't work on 771 though the mounting points are different.

Thanks for your quick answers ! :D

I've never heard about replacing a pins with a piece of metal, I might work (?).

No I already sa that lga775 cooler cannot fit 771.

I also want to know if some pins are "useless" or not, because now the motherboard starts when I wasn't before I take care of it

EDIT: The picture that I took can fool some of you, there is not that many pins, it's just the light from my desk. All problematic pins are indicated on this pnj image 9_9

There will be some redundant ground pins, but if there is a single data pin broken the board is dead.
