I'm pretty excited for the dx11 and proper reflections also :D

Though I don't find Skyrim in it's Vanilla state remotely fun, so I'll wait for my vampire loli mods.

Apparently it supposed to be a separate download as to not overwrite your current install, plus its free and updated to DX11 64-bit.  So why not have both?

That said, will be taking a closer look at official statements come mid October to see what, if anything, has changed.  Don't want to jump in head first just to be shot in the foot by the fine-print.

Given the backlash between the modding community, Bethesda and all the console peasants stealing mods and reuploading them without consequence, I suspect that a lot of modders won't take the time to port over their mods to the new engine.

It kind of depends on the mod, and how robust the modding tools are. Skyrim has some pretty insane mods, and I think a lot of them will take quite a bit of work to port over - texture and mesh replacers shouldn't be too tough, but not everything will be that easy. I'll wait and see how the community deals with it before I delete my old Skyrim and switch to the remastered, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Honestly, before dismissing it simply because mods already make it look better, consider these things:

  • It's still Skyrim, so if a mod isn't still compatible it probably wont be all too hard to update for it
  • Seems like it'll be updated with 64-bit and potentially even DX11, so that should fix the RAM limitation I'm sure any of you who have actually played around with mods will be aware of. It might also fix the limitation for the amount of mods you can install as well.
  • Might also render some mods redundant. Like all of these mods who serve no purpose other than to fix a bug or two or to tweak some minor issues.
  • May allow for increased modding potential, allowing for mods to look even better than they already do without sacrificing performance, heck existing mods might even get a good performance boost. A bit of wishful thinking but who knows, we might end up getting ENB-like graphics without actual ENB mods or at least a good performance boost allowing for even better looking such whilst maintaining the same or higher fps.

.....Not to mention it's a free update. So uh, as long as we get the necessary mods working with it, why not?

Only thing I wish/hope they do for Remastered - desync the Physics Engine from the Graphics Engine so running the damn game higher than 30fps doesn't cause things in-game to go off their rocker just because you're running at like 60fps. -.-;

I love the physic glitches in TES and FO.
