Well, if you have iphones and ipads that need to connect wirelessly so you need WiFi anyway, running a cable all that distance would probably not be worth it.  The WiFi signal might be hard to pick up at that distance but you can always get another router and set it up as a repeater to extend the WiFi range, that would be an easier and less cluttery option, and it would benefit any iphones or ipads so they can pick up the WiFi signal if they are in that area as well.

Xbox will probably have to be wired...

As for protocols, use IEEE 802.11n.  There are several variants, a, b, and g are all old and outdated, n is the standard in use most commonly now.  802.11ac is the newest standard but right now the equipment is still expensive, and the range is not as good as n although the speeds are better.  I don't think it would matter though as most ISPs don't provide enough bandwidth for your router's WiFi standard to be the limiting factor anyway.

Right, you can put it in a room somewhere halfway between your PC and your router, set it up with a laptop (usually by connecting it to the router with an ethernet cable and using the CD included with the router) to wireless repeater mode, give it access to your home network, and once it's set up you can just leave it in the corner with nothing but power cord plugged in and it will sit there and extend your WiFi range.

If you're building a desktop, you'll want either a USB or PCI Express wireless adapter.  Mini PCIe cards are for laptops.

a router can extend the range if you plug it in with an ethernet cable, but then you'd run into all different kinds of problems with firewalls. You should get an accespoint if you have the ability to plug in a cable or use a range extender.

Also if you can get Wired get wired, especially if it's as easy as running it beneath your house. Unless you are sitting next to the wireless router you shouldn't use it if you're able to use a cable. the latency (ping in games) will be A LOT bigger and the bandwith will be a lot lower so if for instance you ever get a NAS your download speeds to it will be terrible.

I honestly didn't expect a forum witch exists of 99% of gamers to recommend wifi for a desktop.

Why how much better is Ethernet than wifi. and why is everyone suggesting wifi? My original plan was Ethernet

I don't have a clue why everyone is advising wifi. but when it's as simple as just running a cable beneath your house you should do that.

Nothing beats wired.

Always try and go Ethernet when you can, or its practical.

Gigabit connection and it also being a physical connection will certainly make your experience more stable, maybe also lower the ping's slightly. Only on a super high speed internet connection would you see a difference between wired and wireless download speeds for example, AC being the fastest wireless...

Wi-Fi obviously gives you flexibility and the use of no cables, but I'd much prefer a wired connection to my PC if i could...  <_<

Go wired. You will have a lower ping and faster speeds theoretically.

Powerline ethernet if you can't run cable.  There's absolutely no reason to use wi-fi for a desktop and I'm going to assume you're talking about a desktop because I can't think of a single laptop that doesn't come with wifi built in.
