Hi!

Im gonna buy one of those, but im still not entirely sure about which one i should pick. Im gaming in 1080P for now, and not going to upgrade monitor anytime soon. I know 1080 has the most horsepower, but will it be worth the extra cost of 1080P gaming in your opinion?

Thanks for replies!

Generally the *60 is the price/performance sweet spot, and stepping up to a *70 is an increase in performance, but a greater increase in cost.  Stepping up to a *80 is the same thing again.  Only do it if you need to.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

niether, wait for the RX 480 which will crush 1080p for $200. Dont be a fool a buy Nvidia without waiting for AMDs response. You may regret it.

You shouldn't really buy way too much power hoping it will last longer, since you'll probably end up paying more per year overall for the same experience.  Reason being what I said in my first post up a bit

I have read that the 480 will be like the 980 in performance, which i find kinda waste to switch out my 970 for. Do you think the 480 will match the 1070 in performance?

"future proofing" does not exist in the world of PCs. Just letting you know, anything can change at anytime and you could be left in the dust.

It's too early to tell.  Not even all the 1070s are out yet, and the 480 doesn't even release until the end of the month.  It might be a great overclocker but we have no real solid data yet.

Nothing is for certain. The only things that are are death and taxes. Something new could come around next year making the 1080 obsolete.

Because there is very likely a 1080 ti coming soon enough.  and a 1180.  And Vega from AMD.  Life moves on ;)

I don't think so.  In fact it's almost a hard argument going with a 1070 over an RX 480 at 1080p

I will not upgrade monitor until we have graphics cards that can run 4K at 60 stable fps in most games, which is not the case right now. That means there will be alot of new graphics cards on the market before i will upgrade the monitor. Do you think the 1070 is the best choice here then?(not counting the rx480)

I will not upgrade monitor until we have graphics cards that can run 4K at 60 stable fps in most games, which is not the case right now. That means there will be alot of new graphics cards on the market before i will upgrade the monitor. Do you think the 1070 is the best choice here then?(not counting the rx480)

There is currently no single GPU capable of running 4k 60FPS with high/max detail settings.

I don't get why you people keep bringing up amd because his question is very clear.

1080 or 1070 which should he get for 1080p monitor.

What gpu he wants is his choice and lets get real, amd is in the gutter already and the trend in their market share says it all.

This is a fourm where I would hope people would set their personal bias aside and go with the objectively better product. From what we know now, AMD seems likely to be the company releasing that card. The OP can choose to go Nvidia, but we offer alternatives that would make more sense and would be a wiser purchase. If the Rx 480 is anything like what it is said to be, It will be very hard for me to recommend Nvidia for a long time on price alone.
