Painless Blu Ray software?

MrDavid
Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

Powerdvd 10 only works with the older style blu rays and does not work with the updated AACS or whatever the hell it is i cant remember

I use PowerDVD 9 and it works fine with newer Blu ray movies(Amazing Spider-man for example) after an update.

When I built my pc, I put a blu-ray drive in it with the intention of watching my blu-rays so that I could Completely replace my PS3 (with the exception of playing my favourite ps3 exclusive gt5) I am running windows 8 and my drive came with CyberLink PowerDVD 10 which, needless to say, does not work with windows 8. Also the program feels like bloatware, which is not all that appealing to me. Is there a free program that will allow me to enjoy my Star-Wars collection? Or maybe a fairly cheap program that isn't annoying like powerdvd is?

If you're looking for a player to play Blue Ray movies, use VLC, it's my favorite movie player. You might need to read this before it works with Blue Rays though.

VLC Media Player? Not sure exactly what your issue is, but that's my go-to media player.

This one is $39, pretty good reviews for it.

I also have PowerDVD 10 (free with my blu-ray drive), but thanks for the info... I was about to upgrade to win8 on my desktop.  I tried WinDVD Pro and Arcsoft TotalMedia, and I thought the WinDVD interface is cleaner.  Best to try the trials the major ones have (system restore to get back cleaner uninstall haha).  Back to using PS3.

Other than that, I also use mpc-hc.  Limitation is that 3d doesn't work.  Only on the commercial ones... except they also have problems when I use it with my Nvida card, but not Amd (black screen, sound only).

I have Windows 8 and CyberlinkDVD10 and it works perfectly fine for me. Probably a bad install or something.

There are no free programs available that I know of that allow you to play a blu-ray movie you have to pay for them all.

Too bad though you can't switch to a lighter program.

Hm.  I just tested on my other win8 machine and it works fine too.  The OP probably didn't allow it to update.  When I was watching TRON, it asked for update and it worked fine just like my win7 machine.
